Default Van Halen II anniversary & new VHND tribute page!

This week marks the 34th anniversary of Van Halen II, released March 23rd, 1979. As we did last month for their debut album, VHND is celebrating the occasion by unveiling our NEW PAGE dedicated entirely to the second album.

The VAN HALEN II page is full of everything there is to know about the album. Features include: the recording of the album, our review, sales information, photos from the cover shoot, never-seen photos, and more! This is a must-read for any Van Halen fan.

In addition to the extensive page for the album, we have also added new pages for each of the songs. These SONG PAGES include lyrics for every track, commentary, general information, and artwork for the single releases. You can view these pages by clicking on the song titles below. (They can also be accessed from the Van Halen II album page).

    1. You’re No Good
    2. Dance The Night Away
    3. Somebody Get Me A Doctor
    4. Bottoms Up!
    5. Outta Love Again
    6. Light Up The Sky
    7. Spanish Fly
    8. D.O.A.
    9. Women In Love…
    10. Beautiful Girls

Over the next few months we will be adding pages for all of the Van Halen albums and songs.

Check out the new Van Halen II page!

I remember the very first time i heard this album. Bought it on LP brand new in 1987. My grandmother had one of those turntables that's furniture.Took it over there and played it on that. Still remember that day.

Spanish Fly is a masterpiece. By the way, guys, which live version is closest to the studio one?

Can't wait for the WACF page! FW is the benchmark but WACF will always be my personal favourite. Creepily, I'm with Zoid. VHII, WACF and FW... Godly!

My Grandma had the same turntable. I haven't thought about it in years until you posted. Great memory!

Always loved this album and the bumblebee guitar.

I didn't realize you were such a young'un. I bought it on release day in '79 and played it on my parent's Zenith console stereo with AM/FM, 8-track, and a turntable. For such a huge, beautiful piece of furniture man that thing could crank. You know it's an old turntable when it has 16 through 78 rpm speeds on it. ha Good memories with that monster, lasted until Rush Moving Pictures was released, and afterward they bought a Sansui component stereo system which really brought the house down.

My Grandparents not only had the Zenith turntable W/ 8-track player furniture but also had two Zenith Extension cabs. These extension cabs had a 15' speaker, an 8' speaker, and a tweeter horn. Those monsters had a crossover and selectable impedence/ohms switch on them.
My first real guitar amp was the original Crate (the one that looked like a wooden box) 30w. I would disconnect the speaker in the amp and wire direct to those Zenith cabs, switch the ohms and just crank it up.
Maybe it is just me, but when I think back to the sound/tone I had with those old cabs, Best Tone Ever !!! I played well over 200 parties with those cabs. All the guitars, amps, cabs, I have collected over the years have yet to match that deep, rich growl, fiz, and clarity of those 2 Zeniths !!! I have always thought a lot of Eddie's tone on VH1 & II came from the JBLs he used !!!

An absolute classic. I was in heaven when they played a fine version of Women in Love last year in Buffalo. The entire album is pure summer fun and brings me back to being a kid again, when I first discovered the album at a buddy's when we were like 8 years old. It was his sisters record and we used to play darts to it.

Remember back in the day when we used to get our favorite band painted on the back of our dungaree jackets!! Well my original painting was of the album cover of Yes Tails from topographical oceans....until that magical day in spring of 78 when I heard VH for the first time.Needless to say that dungaree jacket became a vest and the Yes album cover was covered with the picture in the start of this thread.I had a tour shirt with that picture on it. Every high school reunion I go to I'm always asked by someone...Hey Sal,Do you still have that Van Halen vest!!!
