Default "Dave could sing these Van Hagar songs live"

While other threads discussed Gary's singing style and how it didn't fit the band, most do appreciate that tour and Gary's willingness to tackle long missed Dave era tunes.

That got me thinking would fans embrace Dave tackling a couple Sam era tunes?

Would it destroy the 2 different camps dynamic that benefit the legacy with constant bickering?

Which songs would/could Dave attempt? (Let's assume Dave's 2007 voice).

    My guesses

    1) Up for Breakfast: forget lyrics, no high notes to reach.
    2) Seven Seal: reminds me of Me Wise Magic.
    3) Pleasure Dome: this song would have actually been better with Dave IMO.
    4) Aftershock: I would really like to hear Dave sing this song.
    5) Get up: I'm guessing Dave heard Ed playing early versions of this.

Forgive me if a thread discussing this has been done before. Just passing time as I lurk waiting til the shoe drops surrounding the current PR mystery/train wreck.

    Would fans embrace it? Maybe.

    Would Dave embrace it? Nope.

I love Sammy led VH. My favourite show of all time is the VH3 tour mainly because they were able to access their entire catalogue. I have no interest in Dave attempting to sing a Sammy song. None at all.

Same... as I posted in another thread asking this question, I actually prefer the Van Hagar era of the band. My first VH album was Unlawful... the first time I saw the band live was on the RHRN tour... it all means a lot to me.

That said, I have absolutely no interest in hearing Dave try to sing those songs. There are SO many GREAT Dave era songs that I would MUCH rather hear them play live in the short 1:50 minutes of stage time they have (i.e. classic era rarities, Me Wise Magic, CGTSNM, anything from ADKOT).

I mean, I get the "idea" of playing the entire catalog, but let's be real! Dave fans have not waited for over two decades to hear Dave try to sing Sammy's songs.

Totally different vocal styles, you have a scat-blues-crooner and a traditional hard rock screamer.

DLR can't pull it off, and I have no desire to hear him try.

It is what it is at this point. Ozzy won't be singing Neon Knights on the upcoming Sabbath tour, and DLR won't be singing Summer Nights.

It's a perk of being the original singer in the band.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

WHY would anyone want DLR to sing Hagar songs?

    Ain't happening.

    Ever.

    Thank God.

    Bingo!

I'd guess most of us would echo this sentiment. Dave singing Van Hagar tunes would just sound...bad. However I would fully accept some instrumental medley kind of thing or Wolf attempting to sing one.

With all the gems they leave unplayed from the magnificent seven, I just don't see the point in digging out something from the Hagar catalog that will undoubtedly sound like shit live to appease a minute fraction of the crowd.

I have really taken a 180 on this over the years, mainly in just accepting the pig headedness of Van Halen's lead singers. If they ever get back together with Sam, same theory applies. I don't need to hear Sam give a half hearted at best attempt at Unchained and Panama. I would rather hear them dig out something like Take Me Back instead.

The difference between Van Hagar and Van Davelen is that Sammy had to sing Dave's songs, but Dave doesn't need to sing Sam's.

I like the Hagar years, but I have no desire to hear Dave scat through Sam's lyrics.

The only interesting idea I've ever heard in terms of giving a little love to the Sammy era with the current lineup is EVH playing a medley of riffs during his solo spot.

I'd be up for that. IMO, Ed's solo spot is pretty stale. I'd rather hear the intro to 5150 than yet another go at Cathedral.

There is a precedent as well - EVH used to play the intro to Mean Street during his Sammy solo spots.

I hated it when Sammy sang CVH and I really would hate to hear Dave make an attempt. I mean he can't sing his own songs now. Why would you want him to make a stab at Van Hagar?

Its about as bad as the whole "bring back Mike and let Wolfgang play guitar with Eddie" idea.
