Default who'd like to see EVH jump up on stage with Avenged Sevenfold at Rock USA?

i think it would be SICK! to see EVH rock with a "nu-metal/metalcore" band like avenged sevenfold. heck, get him to play with mastodon and baroness one day too :-)

No thanks. Ed is a great guitar player, but he doesn't strike me as a jump on stage and jam type of a guy.
I don't have a cool signature. Deal with it!

yeah, totally unlikely, but i know so many of the current bands are probably stoked to be playing on the bill with van halen. and i'd LOVE to hear eddie play in a situation other than VH.

and being wolfie seemingly steered VH to more of a drop tuned sludge metal vibe with honeybabysweetiedoll and as is - it would be cool.

Certainly not with those bands anyway. I could see Wolf doing it, though.

I don't think I'd want to see Eddie play with anyone outside of his band. Unless he has recently truly learned how to improvise with other guitarists on stage, he tends to use about 10 licks and tricks in slightly varying ways.

I'd rather ride a bike without a seat while drinking pure horseradish out of a plastic bottle.

Hearing Ed jam with Mikael Akerfeldt would be a dream come true.

Hearing anything to do with Avenged Sevenfold makes me want to cry.

Band blows. Bunch of metalcore dudes who decided playing going for a half assed rock/metal thing was a good idea.

No, not with those guys. No.

Eddie has rarely gotten on stage and jammed with anyone over the past 30 years. There is very little of him playing with another guitarist on stage at all which is actually really odd as most great guitarists seem to relish playing with other great guitarists.

agreed with those who think (or rather KNOW) that opeth is a much better band than avenged sevenfold... but opeth ain't playing the gig...

yeah, from the footage there is of eddie playing with other guitarists... it seems he consciously strays from being... "eddie van halen", and plays straight up. like when he played with brian may.

if he ever jams again... just be EVH, whammy dives and all. it's all part of who he is.

my coworker and i were discussing at lunch how boring some "shredders" solo albums are. don't get me wrong, we're not knocking john5, vai, petrucci, satriani and the like, but in the case of some recent john5 albums i heard - it's just 4/4 thumping beats with extreme noodling on top. like the song is just a vehicle for wanking off. which it sort of is. vai and satch... even more so.

to me, that's what sets eddie apart. his licks are all part of the song. like "as is" or "hot for teacher" (and countless others). it starts off as a lick - but he makes it a hook. it's memorable.

anywho, when EVH goes apeshit with the "brown sound", the whammy dives, etc. it's NOT a "parlor trick", he creates an otherworldly soundscape.

plus, unlike many of the other shredders, eddie is an insane rhythm guitarist. he's just a funky mofo. probably the one cat who can show him up with "feel" on rhythm is perhaps prince. and that's pretty good!
