Default OU812 Remembered In New eBook

A new one-dollar short eBook tells the story – 25 years on – of the making of Van Halen’s 1988 album "OU812."

“It’s always a blast talking with Sammy Hagar,” says author Martin Popoff, “and within this lively read, he’s considerably charitable in giving me the story of this 'hair metal'-era smash hit from the mighty Van Halen.”

In fact, Hagar waxes lyrical about the “magical moments on OU812.

“We could do no wrong,” explains Sammy. “We just said, let’s start recording today. We just made a date. We had come off a very lengthy tour for 5150 and Eddie had a bunch of riffs he was jamming around. I had a bunch of lyrics in notebooks that I had been thinking about and writing. And we just put them together and jammed in the studio. It was just complete, simple, magic.”

“Ye Olde Metal: Van Halen’s OU812” is available as a ten-page eBook in high-resolution PDF format from Zunior.com here.

“OU812” was Van Halen’s 8th studio album; it reached #1 on the Billboard 200 and featured the singles “Black And Blue,” “Feels So Good,” “Finish What Ya Started” and “When It’s Love.”

I think good parts of that were already posted on here, I believe it is from an interview that was on a website such as classicrock.com (or something similiar).
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

What wasn't "magical" Sam were your Black And Blue lyrics. Musically that song should have been a VH signature song if not for those dumb fucking lyrics. Big swing and a miss!! :

I thought OU812 was a shot at Roth. Apparently not according to Sam. Bone is a dumb name for an album - like Shark Sandwich.
I don't have a cool signature. Deal with it!

At least Sam acknowledges that Source of Infection was a complete waste of time via the lyrical/melody department.

I wonder if these comments were taken recently or have been culled from previous interviews? Some of the stores seem familiar enough to where I think I have read them before.

I love OU812, have since I got it. I didn't notice the shitty production until I read about it on the net so that didn't effect it for me. I just don't think they had time to finish it TBH, stuff like SOI and Sucker seem very, very rushed to me.

I might be in the minority but I really enjoy Black and Blue.

I liked Black n' Blue when I was young, but now, I can't listen to it. "Slip and slide, push it in, bitch sure got the rhthym", bleh.

The whole latter part of the 80's was way too much treble, we probably didn't notice because A) we were kids and B) everyone was doing it.

Probably in twenty years people will be looking back and saying "WTF with all the detuned guitars and over compression?"

My thoughts exactly, DD. Never liked those lyrics when I was younger, either. However, when compared to Up For Breakfast, it looks like a literary classic.

I hated Black and Blue. Pretty much most of the complaining about Tattoo this past year was the same as how I felt about B&B back in 88.
