This is awesome! It looks like it was taken in Chicago, IL at the International Amphitheatre.

CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

As bad as that footage is, you can hear a band that is young, hungry and at the top of their game. Were they ever better than the FW tour in 81? Probably not. This is how I will always remember VH. Maybe one day we will get a proper DVD that does justice to the band. Phenomenal footage.

That was the last tour where it was impossible for them to play a song I didn't love.

After that, Pretty Woman and Dancing in the Streets entered the picture....bleh...

Did EVH always play the "acoustic" part of ice cream man on his electric in the early days??
    That's a first me. ('',)b

Was thinking the same thing. I don't think so though. I have seen pics of Dave with his Davsicle during the WATF tour.

For a combination of high energy and chops, the 80, 81 and 86 tours are the best in my opinion.

There is a reason they built up a rep as the best live band in the world for a time.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

That was very cool. VH was the best during those years. I'd love to see all the footage this was snipped from.

This goes without saying but I'd love VH to release a compilation of old footage someday like Zeppelin did with their LZ DVD...especially of the CVH years.

Saw VH live for WACF, FW, DD, 84, 5150 +. My favorite tour that I saw, for many reasons, was the FW tour. I envy those who got to see the first two tours.

I never understood why VH never released a boxset of some sort with old footage and stuff. This 81 footage would be fantastic. I do not believe that there isn't anything floating around. What I know is that around '79/'80 there was a dutch filmmaker following the band on tour for some sort of documentary. It never saw the light of day.

I remember this from a VHS boot COMP from 1994.
It's all cut up because it's all super 8 footage.

After looking at videos with today's technology, this one seems so eery....but it was cool to see. The band was 'on fire'!!!
