Default Obama: Ill introduce my own immigration bill if Congress doesnt move

President Barack Obama unveiled his vision for immigration reform in a speech on Tuesday afternoon in Las Vegas, Nev., telling Congress that he will send them his own bill and call for a vote if they don't move fast.

"If Congress is unable to move forward in a timely fashion, I will send up a bill based on my proposal and insist that they vote on it right away," Obama said to applause from students at Del Sol High School.

"It looks like there's a genuine desire to get this done soon, and that's very encouraging," Obama said, mentioning a blueprint put forward by a bipartisan group of eight senators on Monday. "But this time action must follow."

Obama's speech was the latest move in a chess match between the White House and some Republicans in Congress to craft an outline for reform that can both be enacted into law while meeting the expectataions of the growing population of Hispanic voters who now overwhelmingly favor Democrats.

Some Republicans want to support immigration reform in part to combat the party's demographic challenges, but the more involved the president is with the bill, the politically riskier it becomes to support it.

In his speech, Obama laid out "markers" for reform, saying any comprehensive immigration bill must give most of the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants a chance to earn their citizenship gradually if they pay a fine, learn English and pass a background check. Immigrants would also have to get to "the back of the line," which means people who have already applied for green cards would have their applications processed first.

The president's bill would also include an employment verification system, more border security and a revamping of the legal immigration system to provide more visas for top graduates of U.S. universities and to reduce lengthy wait times for visas for relatives of U.S. citizens.

The president mentioned the blueprint for reform laid out by senators including rising Republican star Marco Rubio of Florida and John McCain of Arizona, Obama's 2008 GOP presidential rival.

The principles of that outline "are very much in line with the principles Ive proposed and campaigned on for the last few years," Obama said.

The senators pre-empted Obama's speech by a day to release a blueprint that differs from Obama's earlier immigration proposal in some respects.

Both Obama and the senators agree that the nation's illegal immigrants should be given a chance to legalize and eventually become citizens if they meet certain conditions, but the senators' bill includes a spate of border security requirements that must go into effect before the immigrants are eligible for green cards. Rubio said on Tuesday that he will not sign onto a bill that does not include these border enforcement triggers.

Another potential difference between the plans is that the president believes same-sex partners should be able to sponsor their immigrant husband or wife for citizenship in the same way heterosexual married couples can do now. The Senate proposal does not mention same-sex couples.

Obama said he recognized that immigration is an issue that inflames "passions," but he called on Americans to remember that they belong to a nation of immigrants.

"It's easy sometimes for the discussion to take on a feeling of 'us' versus 'them,'" Obama said. "When that happens a lot of folks forget that most of us used to be them. ... Unless youre one of the first Americans, a Native American, you came from some place else. Somebody brought you."

Welcoming immigrants has made the country stronger, he said. "That's how we will ensure this century is the same as the last, an American century, welcoming of everybody who aspires to do something more, is willing to work hard for it, is willing to pledge allegiance to our flag."

Leaders in the Republican-controlled House have not yet released a significant blueprint or proposal for immigration reform. In response to the speech, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner urged the president to keep his distance while Congress undergoes what will likely be a lengthy legislative process to reach a final bill addressing immigration reform.

There are a lot of ideas about how best to fix our broken immigration system. Any solution should be a bipartisan one, and we hope the president is careful not to drag the debate to the left and ultimately disrupt the difficult work that is ahead in the House and Senate," said Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck in a statement.
McCain said in a statement after Obama's speech that despite the "differences" in their approaches, he is "cautiously optimistic" that a bill will go forward.

Immigrant groups and labor organizations are rallying behind the new push for reform. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told Yahoo News on Tuesday that organized labor is entirely behind comprehensive immigration reform and will mount a full-fledged campaign to help drive it through Congress.

I'm glad that Rubio is standing his ground on this. If you don't secure the border, what's the point? I hope the taxpayers realize that little jaunt to Vegas to deliver his speech cost them about $1.6 million. He could have done that from Washington using his beloved teleprompters and saved us the dough. He couldn't stand the fact that he was being upstaged by the eight Senators who are opposing his views. Its always got to be about him though, and he makes himself the main focus of attention.

    1,500 page Immigration Bill

All the members of the bipartisan Gang of Eight pushing immigration reform in the U.S. Senate will band together to block any efforts by other senators to offer amendments to their legislation once it is introduced, the Washington Post reported on Sunday.

A bipartisan Senate group on immigration legislation is attempting to craft an agreement so secure that the eight members will oppose amendments to its core provisions, an arrangement that could delay the introduction of a bill, people familiar with the negotiations said, the Posts David Nakamura wrote.

In response to Nakamuras article on Monday, Gang of Eight member Sen. Marco Rubios spokesman Alex Conant told Breitbart News that his description of the process being worked on is not correct. The legislation that the eight senators are working on is only the start of the process; we expect several committee hearings, a full debate, and an open process for other senators to offer amendments, Conant said. Its premature to speculate about what sort of amendments might be offered, but if another senator offers an amendment that improves the legislation consistent with the principles Senator Rubio has outlined, then I would expect members of the group of eight to support it.

But Rubios words are unlikely to do much to assuage the concerns of conservative Republicans in Congress, especially as fellow Gang of Eight member New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Pat Leahy, and other Democrats appear poised to rush whatever bill the bipartisan group comes up with through as fast as they can once the legislative text is presented.

Nakamura notes the bill is expected to be around 1,500 pages long, and that the Gang of Eight is trying to strike a deal in which all the members agree to oppose any amendments to the core provisions, even if they might agree with the amendments, people familiar with the talks said.

The group is concerned that if one provision is amended, the entire bill will fall apart because the deal is predicated on a comprehensive plan composed of carefully negotiated pieces, Nakamura wrote.

This apparent effort by Gang of Eight members to force a deal through with no amendments and without a transparent process complete with public hearings examining the different facets of a forthcoming bill has worried conservatives on the Senate Judiciary Committee. The committees ranking GOP member, Sen. Chuck Grassley, and his colleagues Sens. Jeff Sessions, Ted Cruz, and Mike Lee recently wrote to all the Republicans in the Gang of Eight asking them to fight for a transparent process and hearings to examine each part of the coming bill, which still has not been written.

Sens. Jeff Flake, Lindsey Graham, and John McCain have not backed the efforts for transparency in this process. Rubio says he does back the efforts for a transparent process, and wrote back to those conservatives on the Senate Judiciary Committee to say that he views the Gang of Eights forthcoming legislative text as nothing more than a starting point from which other senators will be allowed to offer their input via amendments and hearings and other processes. But Leahy, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has only said he will consider having just one hearing on the massive legislative package, and would not commit to a transparent process.

Obama's two-year 'amnesty' for illegal immigrant minors sparks TWELVE-FOLD spike in numbers pouring across border

A San Antonio Air Force base, a California Navy base, and a makeshift detention center in Nogales, Arizona have become temporary shelters for children and youths caught crossing the border without their parents

Republicans blame the Obama administration for the problem, citing a 2012 policy that relaxed deportations
It's 'an administration-made disaster,' says the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee

President Obama now concedes that it's an 'urgent humanitarian situation' and is setting aside $2 million to pay lawyers for the children

The US government expects as many as 80,000 child immigrants to illegally enter the US this year, a twelve-fold jump in just three years

More than 33,000 have been picked up in Texas since October; the Arizona facility has ordered 2,000 mattresses to handle its overload'Instead of having an application of the immigration law, we are taking mothers and children and dumping them,' another claimed

A federal judge castigated the Obama administration in December, saying it was 'completing the criminal mission' of human traffickers

President Barack Obama is calling tens of thousands of illegal-immigrant children languishing in temporary U.S. holding pens an 'urgent humanitarian situation,' but Republicans are pointing the finger of blame squarely at the White House.

Obama instituted an immigration policy that the GOP says enticed tens of thousands of Central American children to cross America's southern border illegally without any parents to guide them.

More than 33,000 have been picked up in Texas alone since October. The U.S. border patrol says its forces are overwhelmed, and the courts are bracing for a flood of immigration cases from children held in temporary detention facilities designed to handle a fraction of the numbers. Sanitation problems are beginning to rear their ugly heads.

Obama rolled out a controversial Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in 2012, allowing many illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as minors to escape deportation for two years. The White House gave them another two-year window last week.

As a result, say some GOP leaders, America's system for handling illegal immigration has been strained to the breaking point and is attracting hundreds of new illegal-immigrant children every day.

Compared to the year before Obama's policy took effect, twelve times as many kids are coming north illegally this year.

He says we need gun control to be safe as a nation.

Yet he continues to not secure our southern border from criminals and drug cartels. and willingly releases mass murdering jihadists.

For some reason, those two positions don't quite seem to jive.

Default EDITORIAL: Childrens surge of illegal aliens is overwhelming the southwest border

Obama’s dreamy promise lures thousands to the border

There’s a surge on the border. This is a surge far different from George W. Bush’s dispatch of armed might to win the day in Iraq. This is a mass movement of immigrants that threatens to transform the nation.

Children are walking hundreds of miles across a hostile environment with little more than the clothes on their backs, accompanied by neither a parent nor other responsible adult. The numbers of these children making the treacherous journey are much higher than the Obama administration has acknowledged, according to reporting by our Stephen Dinan. The deputy Border Patrol chief, Ronald Vitiello, said in an internal memo on May 30 that border agents caught 40,000 unaccompanied children last year. They expect to apprehend 90,000 children this year, and 142,000 in 2015.

Americans are a kind and generous people, and photographs of a sea of small, frightened and hungry faces in U.S. shelters along the southern border are enough to break a million hearts. President Obama, whatever he intended, is largely responsible. Lured by lax immigration enforcement and the promise of citizenship as “dreamers,” the Obama children’s hour is changing the mission at the border from ensuring security to providing emergency assistance. Last week, the president declared the border an “urgent humanitarian situation.” He assigned the handling of the influx of children to Craig Fugate, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which customarily provides relief following natural disasters. This is a disaster, sure enough, but it’s a man-made disaster.

Untended children leaving their homes in Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador to head north is anything but natural. On June 2, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte pinned the blame squarely on Mr. Obama’s broken border policies. “Word has gotten out around the world about President Obama’s lax immigration-enforcement policies and it has encouraged more people to come to the United States illegally, many of whom are children from Central America.”

Coming to America now means getting free citizenship, free health care, welfare benefits and even an Obamaphone. Illegal aliens crossing the border into Texas say news reports in their Central American homelands encourage them to risk the journey northward with the promise that if they make it to the U.S. border, they won’t be turned away.

Undeterred by the refusal of Congress to enact the Dream Act, the president substitutes an administrative equivalent in the form of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which enables those who arrive illegally as children and are in school or the military to remain for two years, subject to renewal. Nearly 600,000 children have benefited from the program since 2012. On Friday, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. announced the administration would pay for 100 lawyers to help young illegals remain in the United States.

Generosity doesn’t require that everybody who wants to come to America can come to America. The children’s surge is another consequence of the president making good on his vow to “fundamentally transform” America. He is endangering the lives of thousands of children south of the border.

Gutierrez: Obama to Unilaterally Enact Amnesty After Cantor Loss

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), perhaps the most outspoken amnesty proponent in Congress, said the stunning defeat of Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the primary Tuesday is no impediment to President Obama moving forward with immigration unilaterally.
“When people say there’ll be no action on immigration, watch the White House,” Gutierrez said in a brief interview with Breitbart News.

“Let me just say one thing. The calendar hasn’t changed. That’s one thing that is consistent in Washington D.C. and that is the calendar. And they have to make a decision. Whether they're going to oppose sensible immigration reform or whether they’re going to double down, sharpen their knives in their anti-Obama rhetoric,” Gutierrez, who had just spoken on the House floor, said.

“But one thing is clear to me: Immigration reform is not dead. The Republican leadership has not made a decision about how its going to proceed," he added. "Now there are dozens of my colleagues in the Republican caucus who want to work with Democrats on a sensible, border enforcement, legalization process to fix our broken immigration system. They have the decision to make, I would simply say."

"It’s not dead, it may just be moving to the White House for action there," Gutierrez declared. "I believe the president has within existing law the power to take action to protect the immigrant community, and I think he will take those actions.”

“If we don’t see anything by July the 4th there won’t be any action [in the House] on immigration. My point is it may simply be moving,” Gutierrez said.

I am not sure when we made the POTUS emperor in this country, but I don't like it.

There is a reason we have a Congress and Supreme Court, and they aren't there for rubber stamping. He or any other President should not just be able to waive a magic wand and make whatever laws they see fit.

Executive Order was initially intended for commonplace items that were not deemed important enough to bother Congress with. Not major legislation in which he or she can't make a good enough argument to garner support for their position.

REPORT: OBAMA ADMIN KNOWINGLY LETTING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT GANG MEMBERS INTO US

President Barack Obama's administration is knowingly allowing illegal immigrant gangsters from Mexico and Central America into the United States, and some are even being reunited with their family members.

The gang members reportedly belong to some of the most dangerous gangs in Central America and Mexico, like MS-13, but Border Patrol agents are handcuffed, especially if the illegal immigrants are deemed to be "minors."

According toNational Review, Border Patrol agentswho "recognize the gang-affiliated tattoos of minors crossing the border must treat them the same as anybody else." An Arizona Border Control agent said that it was upsetting that a lot of the gang members are "16 or 17 years old and a lot of them are not going to face deportation."

Chris Cabrera, the vice president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 3307 in the Rio Grande Valleytold National Review that Border Patrol agents have reunited dangerous gang members with their families in the United States. He asked, “If he’s a confirmed gang member in his own country, why are we letting him in here?”

“I’ve heard people come in and say, ‘You’re going to let me go, just like you let my mother go, just like you let my sister go. You’re going to let me go as well, and the government’s going to take care of us,’” Cabrera told the outlet. “Until we start mandatory detentions, mandatory removals, I don’t think anything is going to change. As a matter of fact, I think it’s going to get worse.”

In a letter to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on Thursday, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, as Breitbart News reported, wondered "what consideration is being given – and what is being done – to determine if any of these illegal aliens have criminal histories or gang affiliations."

Brewer mentioned that "MS-13, one of the world's most notorious international gangs, has strong ties to several of the Central American countries from which these aliens are arriving."

"The administration's refusal to properly verify that violent criminals are not among those entering the United States shows an alarming lack of concern for our homeland's security," she wrote. "As a nation, we cannot sit back and allow this policy to continue."

Illegal immigrant children -- including gang members from Mexico and Central America -- are making the trip to America because they have been told -- through word of mouth, in newspapers, and even on television and radio commercials -- that the Obama administration will not deport them, especially if they are minors, once they arrive in the United States.

Default Fighting back: Residents force feds to scrap plan to house illegals at Va. college

    Monday, June 16, 2014

The Obama administration Monday abruptly halted plans to shelter some of the children surging across the border at a defunct college in rural Virginia, as the White House has continued to see its efforts to house the children throughout the country be thwarted by opposition from local officials.

As many as 500 children were to start arriving this week at St. Pauls College, a recently closed historically black college in Lawrenceville, Virginia. But the Health and Human Services Departments plans were stymied, at least temporarily, after town and county officials objected to the short notice and complete lack of community input.

We were stunned, said Robert F. Pecht III, president of the Lawrenceville Town Council, who learned of the plan Friday evening. We were told it was a done deal. The lease was signed, and that was it.

As the feds worked over the weekend preparing the campus for the arrival of the children, whom officials said would be ages 11 to 17, public outrage erupted in the community, which is about 70 miles south of Richmond.

Letters flooded the town council offices, including from nearby residents threatening to boycott the town if the college became a way station for illegal immigrant youths.

Rep. Robert Hurt, the Republican congressman who represents the region, sent a letter to HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell on Monday morning demanding she halt the project. After the delay was announced, Mr. Hurt said it should be the beginning of a total rethink.

I would request that they completely halt the implementation of this plan and return to the drawing board, he said in a statement. If the HHS plan is indeed good for the people of Lawrenceville and Brunswick County, then they should begin with a transparent and open process that includes the community and the local elected officials every step of the way and ensures compliance with all local, state and federal laws including the local zoning ordinances of the town of Lawrenceville.

The administration has scrambled to find temporary housing for the children, who are pouring across the border in unprecedented numbers.

More than 90,000 children, mostly from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, will be caught this year, and more than 140,000 will be apprehended in 2015, according to an internal U.S. Customs and Border Protection memo.

Plans to house some of the children at an empty office complex in Baltimore were halted after the citys Democratic mayor and Marylands two Democratic senators objected as soon as the details were announced.

In Virginia, the administration signed a five-month lease with an option to renew for up to three years, all of it before officials caught wind of it, said Bernard L. Jones Sr., chairman of the Brunswick County Board of Supervisors.

He said HHS officials estimated that a steady stream of children would be housed on the campus, each child staying about 30 days until being reunited with a parent.

The first major concern is the safety and security of the citizens of Lawrenceville and Brunswick County, Mr. Jones said.

Jerry Prince, the owner of Princes Barber Shop in Lawrenceville, said that he wanted what was best for the children, but he feared the children would bring diseases to his town.

Even kids carry diseases like smallpox, chickenpox and scabies, said Mr. Prince, 40.

The fears may not be unfounded.

Immigration officials have said many of the children have never seen a doctor until they are intercepted by agents at the border, and head lice and scabies screenings are part of the initial checks.

Indeed, one early hiccup in the governments efforts to find places to house the children was that the military, which offered housing on several bases, refused to let the children onto bases until seven days had elapsed from the time doctors had administered inoculations.

After seeing the local opposition to the Lawrenceville site, HHS officials hit pause.

The project of developing Saint Pauls College as a site for caring for minors in the Unaccompanied Alien Children program is on hold pending community input, said Kenneth J. Wolfe, spokesman for HHSs Administration for Children and Families.

HHS officials will attend a community meeting about the plan Thursday in Lawrenceville.

The Obama administration has called the surge of children a humanitarian crisis driven by a spike in gang violence in Central American countries that is prompting children to flee to the U.S.

However, critics blame President Obama for laying out a welcome mat for illegal immigrants, especially minors, and for discouraging deportations. Government interviews with the young border crossers confirm that many believed that once they arrived in the U.S., theyd get permission to stay.

Border Patrol agents have been taken off patrol duties to perform what they call baby-sitting. Agents say they are doing everything from changing diapers to trying to separate boys and girls getting frisky in detention centers.

On Monday, Rep. Candice S. Miller, Michigan Republican and chairwoman of a key border security subcommittee, wrote a letter asking Mr. Obama to deploy the National Guard to take up some of those duties and let the agents get back to their job of stopping illegal immigrants, drug smugglers and gun traffickers.

This diversion away from normal patrol responsibilities will result in an increase of drugs and migrants illicitly crossing our border, she said.

She called on the president to not only deploy the Guard but to give it police powers so it could also aid in patrolling the border and arresting illegal immigrants.

    Holy shit.

If I am a Border Patrol Agent or DEA Agent, the day I am told that changing fucking diapers of illegal immigrants is in my job description is the day I fucking walk out.

I know I am repeating myself, but we are colossally fucking stupid in our policies at the moment.

Secure our fucking border, send illegals back to their country of origin, and fucking subtract the cost of it from our aid to the country of origin.

    Simple, fucking done.
