Default Gun confiscation WAS part of NY gun law

The NY SAFE Act passed a week ago in New York was deemed some of the strictest of state gun legislation — but it could have been even more so.

New York Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin explained in a Facebook post last week that he was given the “unpatriotic proposals” by a colleague. And while they didn’t make it into the final bill, that was “thanks to us fighting back.”

The accompanying video posted shows McLaughlin, who represents the state’s 107th district, talking about a list of rejected Democratic proposals for the act on the assembly floor and then being told that it is recommended the list not be shared “because it really has the capacity to damped the enthusiasm to compromise.” Watch the clip:

Here’s the list McLaughlin posted that he says he received from a colleague and notes it is not confidential:

    Confiscation of “assault weapons”
    Confiscation [of] ten round clips
    Statewide database for ALL Guns
Continue to allow pistol permit holder’s information to be replaced to the public
Label semiautomatic shotguns with more than 5 rounds or pistol grips as “assault weapons”
Limit the number of rounds in a magazine to 5 and confiscation and forfeiture of banned magazines
Limit possession to no more than two (2) magazines
Limit purchase of guns to one gun per person per month
Require re-licensing of all pistol permit owners
Require renewal of all pistol permits every five years
    State issued pistol permits
Micro-stamping of all guns in New York State
Require licensing of all gun ammo dealers
Mandatory locking of guns at home
    Fee for licensing, registering weapons

This is a look at the document itself

“This bill was an attack on the 2nd amendment and the Democrats clearly wanted to dismantle the work of the Founding Fathers,” McLaughlin wrote on Facebook. “None of these amendments were included in the final bill thanks to us fighting back. I will not stand silent while these unpatriotic proposals are pathetically thrown at us a 11 o’clock at night.”

Limit POSSESSION to two magazines, which under those rules would be five bullets each.

Ten bullets? That's crazy talk. That is about two minutes of shooting on the range or out in the back yard.

Barney Fife didn't have to deal with gang-bangers, crackheads, methheads, etc. either.

But he DID have to deal with Floyd:

On Monday, singer James Taylor told the Daily Caller that Americans need to sacrifice some of their freedom to protect children from gun violence.

“I think the nation is very divided on gun control,” he told the Daily Caller when asked if he agreed with Obama's recent executive actions on guns and the push to enact strict gun control.

"But," he added, "I think the majority of us feel strongly — even the majority of gun owners feel strongly — that we need to make some sacrifice[s] to our freedoms, if that’s the way to put it. We need to make some sacrifices to what we might want to have, in order to safeguard our children.”

Taylor went on to say that while he believed the men who wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights wanted Americans to be armed, he felt those same men would want limits on the right to keep and bear arms.

Expressing his love for President Obama, Taylor admitted he didn't know the details of the recently-signed executive orders, The Blaze said.

“I love this president for so many reasons,” Taylor said, expressing a desire to see more politicians like him.

“I think he’s a true public servant. An amazingly capable and compassionate and intelligent man and a very level-headed citizen,” he added.

Taylor went on to say that he trusts Obama to make important decisions for Americans.

"That’s what it means to have faith in a leader,” he said.

Taylor's comment, however, runs counter to an opinion once expressed by Benjamin Franklin, one of those who helped craft our founding documents.

“Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one,” he said.

In 2011, Taylor received a National Medal of Arts, the highest award given to artists and arts patrons by the United States Government, the Daily Caller said.

The Blaze said that Taylor, who performed for Obama's first inaugural in 2009, also performed at the inauguration on Monday.

I personally imagine the majority of gun owners would rather speak for themselves in regard to what they desire than to have Sweet Baby James speak for them.

He's allowed his opinion, just as the rest of us are. He was asked, he answered.

I think he is way off base, but he can feel however he wants.
