    Default White Kramer Ad question

Someone in Main posted an old Kramer Ad with Ed holding a white Kramer and it got me thinking. Does anyone know what kind of Kramer it is? A custom single pickup Pacer? A Barrera prototype? Did Ed ever tape this up and play it like the purple Pacer?
    Just curious.

Well...Jimi is THE Authority, but I hadn't thought about this one strangely...Guess I always assumed Baretta, with the slant pickup.
Honestly though, Kramer's Eddie yrs./80's lineage has always been a contentious one.
Knowing this was a guitar Ed was posing with, and given all the ideas flying around at the time, it could be a good ol' Pacer template cut body hybrid with the soon standard Baretta slant mounted pickup. It's not a Focus, (offshore) but they also had the slant. Ed did have some slant mount backups...Not sure if they were true Baretta's either, given he wasn't fond of maple as the main body wood (combine that with the slanted pickup, it'd probably be way to bright for Eddie's liking).
    It's a good question.

Pretty sure it's a production Baretta. Before they narrowed the end of the headstock and angled them. At the time they were everywhere. Even Hagar had one. It's all over Live Without A Net.

They occasionally striped one of them and used a maple fret board for Ed. Think he usually gave them away. Unfortunately, Kramer never sold a guitar exactly like Eddie played. The 5150 Kramer. That would have been the coolest! The Baretta was the closest thing you could get.

I don't think it was a Baretta. They had headstock mounted truss rod adjustment with a truss rod cover like Sammy's from Live Without A Net as far as I can remember, but I could be totally wrong.

Jimi would know...by the way, I haven't seen jimi around on the forums and I pm'ed him a while ago and still haven't heard back from him. Does anyone know what became of him or if he is allright? I'm sure he's just taking a break from crazy people (like me) that bother him for all his knowledge

It looks like an early Kramer Baretta. Kramer fans call them "Grails." There wasn't a lot of them made. However, most versions have a headstock with a slightly different shape.

I had that exact guitar, but couldn't really tell you anything about it other then it looked the same. I bought it simply because Eddie was holding it in that ad. I was 15, and it was the first guitar I purchased with my own money.

Kinda wish I had kept it.

    I owned one too...

...regrettably, I sold it in the late '90s.

Allright jimi! Glad you are among the living! Sweet "Holy Grail" Kramer, no doubt. I'll bet you got a pretty good piece of change for that guitar, but it sure is cool...How did you come to own it in the first place? I remember when I was a kid that I never saw one like the No Bozos Kramer ad in any local store going back to '84...

The Grails were rare. However, they can be found.

The black one on top is amazing! I've never seen one with a factory maple fingerboard before...Do you have any more pics of that one? What are the specs on it? I've just built a black one with Musikraft and Kramer parts, but I'd love to see some more detail on the real deal!

That's a pretty rare production Baretta with non-tilt neck. Should have a low C serial number. If I recall correctly. There was around 200 produced then they changed to the bananna headstock..

The black Baretta didn't originally come with a maple fingerboard. However, I have seen a few on the internet that have. That neck was off a Pacer Deluxe that I used to own. The neck has a R2 nut and has no luthier joint.

Rob is right. Super cool guitar and super rare neck. Probably about as close as you can get to a real Eddie styled Kramer with factory Kramer parts available to the general public. Nice!
