    Default Martin Luther King Day

    Great man.

“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”

“One of the great liabilities of history is that all too many people fail to remain awake through great periods of social change. Every society has its protectors of status quo and its fraternities of the indifferent who are notorious for sleeping through revolutions. Today, our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change.”

You never know what would have happened with Dr King if he would have survived his murder just like in the case of Lincoln. However,if you look at the people around Dr King and what many of them have become they clearly lack the vision and the motive he had.RIP

I believe this quote is attributed to him, and it's a great one.

You mean the accomplishments of Jesse Jackson seem to fall a little short?

    Blasphemy I say.

A man who did great things but will not call him great for his personal transgressions. Sorry but if you lack character in your personal life, you are knocked down a few pegs.

Anyway its a shame nobody has picked up the baton from him and run to the finish line. All the current right activists have done is kick it around and blame others.

If we are going to start judging great men based upon whether they were faithful to their wives, it's going to be a short list.

Most would consider our Founding Fathers great men, and many of them were fucking everything that walked supposedly.

I think ignoring a man's personal faults is foolish. Does that make it a shorter list? Sure. And it should be.

That is between him and his wife. There is public life and personal life, and the word personal means just that in my opinion.

He was a great man that helped bring about seismic social change in the United States that was way overdue.

Whether he was cheating on his wife is between him, his wife and God. It has no effect on me, but what he accomplished does.

Of course its between him and his wife but it speaks to character. It doesn't make his accomplishments any less impressive but if one is going to judge him as a man then that's kind of important.

A great man IMO is one who is great in all aspects in his life. A great businessman who beats his wife is only a great businessman. A great outfielder who cheats on his wife is only a great baseball player. A great president who ignores his kids is simply only a great president.

I simply will not brush any character concerns I have about a person because he happens to be good at his job. Bill Clinton for instance was a very good president but is a shitty husband. I don't consider him to be a great man. We assign prestige on far too many people

MLK wasn't a great man. A great activist yes. No question but he was morally average at best. I can't assign greatness to a person like that.

That reminds me of something Chris Rock said. He said he didn't know why anyone would have a problem with this holiday. Chris Rock: "It's not like you have to do something black today. All you gotta do is NOT GO TO WORK!" Lol.
