Default Custom Northern Ash 5150 Build

    Hey Linkers!

Thought I'd share a custom ordered 5150/Pacer style build I'm doing for a customer. It will feature a Northern Ash body and a one piece Birdseye maple Banana neck. Body and neck will be finished in Tru oil.

I think it will be a cool mix of the Frankenstrat with the Northern Ash, and the 5150 body shape and neck.

So far the plans are for one humbucker, one volume and a Floyd Rose. Any suggestions for the humbucker in this guitar?

    I'll keep the progress updated.

Check out the build on Atomic Punk Guitars official page too, http://www.facebook.com/AtomicPunkGuitars

    Thanks!

If you want something production, go with the Duncan '59/Custom Hybrid.

If you want something hand-made, check out www.BG-Pups.com. Bryan will wind you sex with wire and magnets for about the price of a production Duncan or DiMarzio. He has some "standard" models, but will pretty much do what you want.

Indeed! I haven't found a better sounding EVH style humbucker.

More progress. I got the neck cut out today and the shape cleaned up. Time for tuner holes, the headstock thickness cut down and routing for the truss rod.

Getting closer to finished! The body just needs to be routed for the tremolo from the top, humbucker and the Floyd posts, input jack and volume pot need to be added. Plus body contouring will be the last step.

The neck has been marked out for frets and position markers, the tuner holes drilled and the headstock reduced to the correct thickness. Next up; truss route and skunk stripe.

And for those who have been waiting to see my VHI neck, well, just a little longer. Waiting on a truss rod and fret wire shipment...

I finished all the routing on the body. Just needs the elbow and stomach contours and drilled for wire channels. It weighs in at just over 6 pounds; not too heavy and not too light.

    Almost finished with this build!

The neck is radiused, position markers added, Floyd Rose nut shelf routed and drilled and fret slots have been cut in.

    Frets added.

    Close up of headstock.

    With Floyd Rose locking nut.

It's almost finished! The body and neck are done. I'm waiting on a 1984 Floyd Rose re-issue, Schaller tuners and the neckplate. For now I have one of my own Floyd's and a temporary neck plate on.

The body and neck are finished in oil and look beautiful together. The grain really pops now!

The belly contour is exactly like the original 5150. A bit smoother and more rounded than a normal belly cut. The control route is unique too, and I will be cutting a cover plate out of ABS for it.

The neck is one piece Birdseye Maple with a Walnut skunk stripe. Frets are 6150. Asymmetrical back profile.

The grain really pops with the oil finish!
