Default Where Did Van Halen Record Before 5150 Studio?

Past few months, been hearing about the documentary Dave Grohl is making about the Sound City Recording Studio's. Sounds and looks like it will be cool. Watch the trailer.

    http://loudwire.com/dave-grohl-sound...rical-release/

Where did Van Halen record previous to Ed building 5150?

Thanks. Check out the list of performers that worked there. Wow! Guess any studio in New York or LA is going to have a pretty storied past. Nice pic of Dave there. Were all of the first 5 albums recorded there?

I'm surprised that they didn't go on to list their debut album as being recorded there. It was too.

Though I think VH recorded Diver Down somewhere else, as because of the short notice, Sunset Sound wasn't available.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Wikipedia says that yes, they recorded at Sunset Sound and finished Diver Down in just 12 days. They were "pressured" into making it by Warner Bros, after they cut "Pretty Woman" and it rose up the charts as a single. They wanted to take time off after coming off the Fair Warning tour. The record company wasn't having any of it.

According to the first link above, VH1 was recorded in Studio 1 and the next 4 were recorded at Studio 2. Amazing how much different those 4 sounded from each other despite being done in the same studio.

Fuck, I recorded in the same room as VAN HALEN!

(& The Doors...and damn near everyone worth a damn, in between...)

My guess is Ed was constantly chasing his tone and changing things around here and there. Templeman was along for the whole ride so, not sure what he would have done differently. To my ears, the second album was recorded the best. It's louder and more in your face than the others imo.

So funny what different people hear, I really don't like the sound on VHII as much as I, WACF, and Fair Warning.

Good point. I would rank them like this:

1-Fair Warning (love the sound of everything on this album)
2-VHI (Hard to complain about that guitar sound)
3-VHII (Kinda sloppy at times...but I love the energy and rawness)
4-WACF (I really don't like the sound of this album at all. The raw I liked on VHII just sounded messy here to me)

Right on, that's awesome. You were on sacred ground right there.

If those wall's could talk, they'd probably say ; " Van Halen sure are one messy bunch of Son's of Bitches ".
