And amazingly, it sounds note for note similiar to the version found on Right Here Right Now without the crowd noise.

To be fair, it is a great version, I just don't understand to this day why such an incredible live band released a "studio" live album.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

cause Ed and Al had too much time on thier hands (yeah, I know it's from Sam's book but Sam has never had an issue with putting live stuff out there so I believe him on that one).

They should have went out on tour in 93 jsut like they did and recorded a few shows from that tour cause they were totally incredible when I saw them-best concert I've EVER seen. They were spot on and had so much energy it was off the charts.

If I had to guess on why the live album was doctored, it would be a case of perfectionism. When you're used to carefully recording in the studio, listening to yourself live with no editing or second takes can be humbling.

If, live, Eddie did a trademark kick, and his timing was slightly off, you'd hardly notice. But with just listening back, it sounds like a mistake. He may have the urge to either fix it or never let anyone hear it. I wonder if this is why we get so little official live stuff from VH.

I wish they'd take more cues from Zeppelin and release some live DVD action. There are timing issues and sloppy playing because its really live, but it doesn't matter because the overall vibe and performance is great.

LWAN was supposedly pretty much released just as it was played, the only thing they "fixed" were some backing vocals (this is from and ed and sam interview in 87). Ed said LWAN was just an average show as well.....

I have tons of boots from 91 that are better than RHRN...what a bummer.

it has some highlights and those are GREAT but everyone only talks about the negative stuff (I guess I do as well)

If you compare the two versions and listen closely they are two different performances. The version in 5150 on video is 4:37 and the version from Right Here, Right Now is 5:22 (and the latter is played at a slower tempo too which could result from tape speed, etc., and I'm not home to see if that's the case by checking if the key is different since I don't possess perfect pitch). There are lots of differences in all of the performances from Ed's guitar riffing and soloing (the solos are especially different between the two versions) to Alex's drum fills to Sammy's vocals. Thus I've always concluded they are two entirely different performances of the song albeit both studio creations.

You going to the show at The Joint? Thought about it, but I think I'm going to pass. Curious if he will still have the Cabo themed stage. Thought it was getting a bit lame when I saw two shows on his last solo tour before the Foot.

Anyway, have a great time at the show.

Yeah, I will be at The Joint. Never been to that venue before. Will be interesting to see what the stage set-up is like.

I guess the fakes on LRHRN are "WGFA," "Dreams," "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," and "Love Walks In?" The latter 3 because they didn't perform them on the '91-92 tour.

I think everything was touched up a LOT, and then there are some that are total studio creations.

As I said, makes no sense, they were about a perfect sounding live act at the time. No need for them to do that.
