(Happy) Anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans. For the history-minded, really a fascinating story from the War of 1812. Largely a one-sided American victory, it is unique in that it was actually fought (main battle was on the 8th) after the peace treaty ending the War was signed. Due to the (lack of) speed of communications, word didn't reach New Orleans in time. Also unique in that the American forces consisted of a real melting pot. Army regulars, militia, American Indians, Cajuns, Freed Slaves, Pirates, frontiersmen etc.
