    Default Payroll tax increase

Last week Congress got a raise...This week my payroll taxes increased...a pay cut courtesy of the Federal Government. Great. We need a Revolution.

Actually, your taxes didn't increase, the short term tax cut expired.

I know it sucks, but it was a stupid tax cut anyway. There are plenty of ways to fix the mess we are in, but lowering the Social Security tax is not one of them in my opinion.

There are no stupid tax cuts...I pay more for gas, food, insurance, local property taxes, fees, tolls ect. than I did two years ago when the payroll tax cut went into effect. This hurts. I live within my means, I'd like to see my government do the same.

when your govt is running huge deficits every year then any tax cut is a stupid tax cut. You're right about they need to learn to live within their means though. But until there's appears to be any evidence of this then cutting taxes just makes the problem bigger.

Directly from the Grover Norquist school of economics.

If that's the case, then let's just get rid of all taxes and this whole thing will just take care of itself...

Yeah but the current administration wants both except mostly on the revenue side. That's impossible. A majority of the mess is due to spending increases not tax cuts. Tax receipts as a percentage of GDP have been basically stable since WWII. On the flip side, in real dollars, our budget is 61% higher than Clinton's last in 2000, and basically double if you don't account for inflation.

Obama's 1st cliff offer was $600B in cuts, $1.5T in revenue over 10 years. That's how he wants to do it. Impossible.

I am going to keep saying until maybe someone in Congress understands it.

America does not have a revenue problem by analytical review. Our revenues have increased plenty in the last twelve years.

However, our spending has SKYROCKETED. America has a spending problem, and now has a debt problem. If we were raising taxes to take care of the debt problem, I would have no problem with it, we have had some serious shit go down economically the last twelve years. BUT, if you are just increasing taxes so that everyone's pet pork projects don't get cut, well, we are really just digging a deeper hole.

couldn't agree more. It's amazing that no one has been able to put a plan together to do both (you know cut expenses and raise revenue) in order to start running surpluses and actually start paying off some debt. Does anyone in Washington own a fucking calculator? Canada went through the same thing in the 90s and then rattled off a decade worth of surplus budgets and paid off a nice chunk of debt which helped us during this most recent mess. Is it possible that no one in DC can look at that model and fucking copy it? Those idiots are gonna drag the whole western world into a shithole. Idiots.

I think the re-election rate of congressman/senate was above 90% in the recent election. Scary
