Default Henry Rollins on Van Halen

Had not seen this posted here before and thought others might like it.

Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

Thought that was a little odd, then when I clicked on a couple of his other videos, he seems to do that for whomever or whatever his subject matter is.

"The gays" for example when discussing gay marriage, etc.

Who knows, Rollins is an interesting guy to me, but in small doses.

That sounds weird too. Kind of like when Regis Philbin once introduced Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee as "The Motley Crue." Didn't go over too well, and they corrected him.

I dunno, I'm seeing a hyphen between their names.....

which is the way it should be.

Speaking of having a way with a phrase, Rollins' spoken word is kinda where he lives. Some lol gems here. Until it gets sad at the end.

I remember him when he sang lead for The Black Flags.

    I dig Rollins. Great clip.

Anyway, nothing compares to Rollins going into the East Village and ripping a bunch of douche-nozzle hipsters to shreds. I love this vid:

I have to think that Rollins starts out making fun of the band and its fans, then warms up to DLR when he meets him and keeps dissing on the fans because they are fat and eat arena junkfood. I didn't know he was a fledgling stand up comic? Keep your night job dude.

It isn't dissing when it is just the plain truth. Americans are fucking fat.

Took my son to a robotics competition a few weeks ago, you didn't even need to look at the placards to see which teams were from America, just look to see if they were fat. Twelve year olds with double chins, yep, that's us, who-hoo, go USA.

The Swedish team, dear God what a gene pool. Every one of them looked like something out of Vogue or GQ. I appreciated their mothers making the trip, made the weekend go better.

Something to be said for purebred Swedish versus the American mutt.

Man, when I went to the show in Oakland this year, the mean weight of our section was equivalent to a Buick. Rollins made me laugh because it is true. As I was walking in, I said to my friends pointing at the concession stand, "Other than beer, who the hell buys this shit?" Then proceded to see the that my section was occupied by harbor seals wolfing down that dogshit food.

The depressing part was that some of these harbor seals have managed to defy the laws of physics let along the principles of biology to breed and make new, soon-to-be fatter versions of themselves eating everything in sight. Some of them had arm-pit sweat just walking up the stairs to their seats.

You guys are right, there's no question Americans are fat. But my observations on this are twofold. First, considering all of human history it's almost hilarious that we now have it so good that obesity has become a "national crisis". How good do you have it when that's your problem? "Everybody's eating too much, oh no!" 40 years ago a bunch of nutjob alarmists were predicting wars by 2000 simply over food because of overpopulation and mass starvation. And now everybody is too fat. 99.99% of all societies in history would kill for such a problem.

And secondly, I was a teenager in the 80s so it's not that long ago and in a class of about 110 we had all of one guy and two girls that were even remotely fat. And one of the girls was just sort of chunky at worst. All I have to do is look at my yearbook to confirm this. And from the time I was a little kid I seemed to remember practically living on a steady diet of donuts, hamburgers and french fries, pizza, and the like and endless amounts of soft drinks. We all did. The absolutely enormous difference between now and then is that up until I was at least in my early 20s we were outside ALL the fucking time doing stuff. Having fun back then was riding bikes and swimming and playing sports and building stuff and such. When we were kids we all were outside and active past dark until our parents screamed themselves hoarse trying to call us inside. Almost none of us were ever anything but skinny, and fit. No matter what, or how much, we ate.

These days I live in an area where I know there are kids everywhere because I see them on the way to school and yet other than that I never see them at all. They're doing nothing but sitting in front of their computer or video game of choice all day. It's not because they eat too much fast food or candy, it's because they're absolutely inert. A beautiful Saturday afternoon can go by and not one leaves the house. There are no bikes or footballs in the yard. And they don't change as they get older.
