Default Rolling Stone best of 2012-no Van Halen :(

    http://www.rollingstone.com/music/li...-2012-20121205

I like Bruce, but c'mon, Wrecking Ball as best album? It sounds like every other album he's made. Same with Green Day and Garbage--good albums, but nothing special. It's just not right that those albums were selected and =VH= was overlooked. Springsteen could release an album of polka music and RS would give him album of the year, same with U2.

Jack White at #3? His album is okay, but it's the same type of thing that he's done for the last ten+ years with TWS. It's nothing special.

I realize it shouldn't bother me, but I hate the way Rolling Stone has treated Van Halen over the years. In their list of 500 best albums, only the self-titled debut (barely) made the list.

Van Halen IS rock n' roll and ADKOT is a great rock album. How the hell can ADKOT not be on the list! Yet they included Passion Pit and Taylor Swift over Van Halen? WTF?

It's written in section 2.7 of the Rolling Stone Employee Handbook:

"You cannot publicly endorse any "commercially viable" rock bands within the print and electronic editions of our publication, so as to protect your unique status as an educated and refined music journalist. If you do, the magazine risks looking like every other standardized entertainment rag".

I'm sure half of those Birkenstock Boys are secretly jammin their fair share of "She's The Women" in their silver Jettas.

This really should shock no one. Taylor Swift is on the list.

    Not surprising.

If there is one genre/era of rock that Rolling Stone won't promote it's hard rock or metal from the 70's or 80's. So pretty much all bands that come from that era are for the large part ignored no matter how good of an album they have. Every once in awhile they will suck on Metallica's balls though. This is why Van Halen and Rush are not on the list.

At this point in time RS is only good for the dog to shit on.

I am ambivalent. I hate RS for its coverage of Rush and Van Halen. OTOH, good political stories and decent writing, even on stuff I ignore. The best part is that I have received it for free for the last three years; I wouldn't buy it.

    Hypothetical question...

If Ed and Dave had given speeches at Obama rallies this year, do you think that ADKOT would have been on the Rolling Stone list? If Bruce had played at Romney rallies, would Wrecking Ball be listed @ #1?

And I say that as someone who is a left-of-center Democrat.

Hmmm. Answer is "it wouldnt have made a difference." VH ran some anti-bush vids during the 2004 tour, it didnt get them any favorable RS press.

The issue goes way beyond VH, there's less than 2% of real rock on that list. That list is anti rock. List should be burnt, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm a Springsteen fan going back to 1980 and aside from one song "Land Of Hope And Dreams" which is actually a 10+ year old tune that Bruce finally included a studio version of on this album, it's otherwise easily his weakest album he's ever released in a string of increasingly mediocre albums since "The Rising" in '02. No surprise RS voted it #1 though, considering Jann Weiner would gargle Brucie's wrecking balls given half the chance.

Exactly. RS is a pure blind liberal propaganda rag. Springsteen and fucking Billie Joe and Eddie Vedder could fart into a mic and RS would rave about how brilliant it is. Ether way, any of these lists (best artist, guitarist, album, etc) are completely pointless.

You know what? Upon further reflection, Van Halen didn't deserve to have their album make the top 50.

, whose album was ranked at #2.

How can songs like "China Town" and "Blood and Fire" compete with that!

Rolling Stone's review of Led Zepplin's first album when they first came out:

Rolling Stone has been horrible since the early days at identifying talent... Van Halen is in good company.

Rolling Stone is to music knowledge as my 330 pound ass is to being a spokesperson for Jenny Craig.

WTFever to RS and their writings... A monkey writes more objective articles in his cave (or cage) with only fecal matter as it's ink.

RS represents fashion, pop stars and left leaning artists. If a band won't play their "game"
they are excluded. Bunch of fucking dung beetles.
