    Default Simpsons VH Mention

Haven't watched Simpsons in a while and happened to catch last night's episode which was actually decent (they lost the plot by about season 9, imo). The episode was about some hipsters moving in next door to the Simpsons and Homer realizing he isn't "cool," which at one point he laments "Not only do I like Van Halen, I think they keep getting better..."

    DOH!!! I missed it.

I remember the last time VH were mentioned on The Simpsons. It was a spoof episode that mimicked vh1's " Behind The Music " show, and guest starred Willie Nelson. He was onstage to trick the Simpsons into appearing together, ( as they were not getting along at the time ), into a reunion, and Willie said that he was also working on getting Van Halen back together. At which point they showed cartoon pictures of them in the audience shrugging their shoulders and snickering. Eddie had his frankenstien shoes. L.O.L.

But I also remember being ticked off, as Willie stated he was attempting to get them to reunite with Sammy Hagar. I thought to myself, W.T.F.? They finally get onto the big time cartoon show, but Willie Nelson fucked it up royal by mentioning the wrong singers name, and Dave was left out of the show. They should have had Dave, so I think it was Willie Nelson's fault, as I suspect he didn't care for DLR spoofing him in his " Just A Gigalo " video, or didn't like Dave doing his song, " Night Life ".

Anyhow, its cool to see and hear VH getting mentioned on these shows lately.

Another TV show mentioning VH was that show "how I met your mother" it was on tonight and they brought up DLR something about Barney being Roth's wing man.

Or it could have been a reference to the fact that Willie Nelson's Farm Aid in 1985 is where Sammy first announced publicly he was joining Van Halen (when Eddie joined him onstage for a couple of songs). Now say "DUH!" in a Homer Simpson voice.

Three prime time shows in the same week? Maybe the Mayans were right!

I believe it's implying that the later stuff isn't as good as the early stuff and Homer uses this as a realization he's not cool (and is sad about it) because he thinks they kept getting better. In print that's what it seems like to me. I didn't see it so I don't know how it was said.

That's pretty much how the bit came off.

IMO - from what I can gather - public sentiment towards Van Halen is trending in a positive direction, thanks in large part to "ADKoT."

That said, personally, I believe it will take another good-to-great album to overcome the public acrimony created by Van Halen's firing of Roth and Hagar on (how many?) occasions; putting out an album that alienated nearly everyone; not releasing a decent song for 14 years; acting like bickering 7th graders while being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; and undertaking two nostalgia tours: one an unmitigated disaster; the other featuring a high school sophomore in place of a founding member.

Personally, I do think Van Halen is getting better -- I hear it on "ADKoT."

How does the band show this to the population at large..?

    Any ideas?
