    Default Lost Weekend footage

Anyone notice this..that it says that the show was recorded and some footage was used for Panama and so fourth. So, there is footage of 1984 locked up somewhere.

The show, which was the first of two sold-out nights, was fantastic. Kurt and Tom watched the first night’s blowout from the lighting and sound platform, giving them perfect vision and sound. The band filmed the show and eventually used a bit of the live footage for the party-intensive “Panama” video. As the show tore on, Winnick recalled that he was ready as ever to hit the bottle hard with the band after the show. Shortly before the end of the show, Jeffries was guided backstage for a special surprise. Van Halen media coordinator Steve Mandel draped Kurt with an oversized MTV Lost Weekend shirt and led him to the edge of the enormous stage. Diamond Dave then introduced him and he was suddenly on Van Halen’s stage in front of 12,000 insane fans. Blinded by the giant spotlights and deafened by the gorilla roar of the band’s monitors, Kurt was suddenly in the eye of the hurricane. The outstretched arms and faces of the crowd froze in time. This was his moment – his time to shine. He was one of the few lucky people fortunate enough to step foot on Van Halen’s stage. The band slammed a giant cake in his face and doused him with champagne and seltzer. After slapping hands with audience members, the band sang “Happy Trails” to an overwhelmed Jeffries.

Man I would love to see that show someday if the vaults are ever opened. That show was in Philly at the now defunct Spectrum, where I would have gone to see it. It was the only CVH tour I missed. It was right around the time I was in the hospital with pneumonia.

To this day, whenever I see footage of Van Halen from back in the day, I think to myself "what the fuck was DLR thinking when he quit that band?"
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

That's interesting- I only mentioned The Spectrum in Philly because I have always read that the live footage for the Panama video was shot there. Even "vanhalenencyclopiedia.com" states this, among other sources. So there's no question that the Lost Weekend was shot in Detroit, but what threw me was the reference to live footage from there being used for the Panama video. Obviously they could have used live footage from multiple sources.

A lot of things from back then are now defunct, including part of my memory and my abs.

I believe some of the onstage footage that bits were culled from for the Panama video was taken during the pre-tour rehearsals at the LA Sony Studios soundstage. There's about 2 dvds worth of out-takes floating around among collectors and especially the cut bits where Dave is suspended from the rigging holding the ghetto blaster, it's pretty clear there's no audience and the stage is in a large hall instead of an arena.
