Default Stratovarius........Wow!!!! Harder Edged VH on roids!!!!LOL

Hello fellow VH fanatics. While waiting for new music from our boys I discovered this incredible band from Finland called Stratovarius. Take Iron Maiden, Dream Theater and Asia(remember them), throw in a little Bach and there you have this incredible sounding band. China Town, Light Up the Sky and On Fire would be right in their wheelhouse. They have been around for about twenty years and boy are their songs tight, well produced, epic, very melodic songwriting and anthemic. Check out the tunes Black Diamond, Destiny and Father Time. All the fellow guitar and keyboard players will appreciate the technical prowess of these cats. I think their keyboardist used to play with Yngwie. Tell me what you think. I would love to see these guys open for VH. Later, halensfi.....yes I admit, their solos are a bit overindulgent...but if I could play like that...well

Ok, I listened to a bunch of their songs. It sounds like real cheesy Euro rock, really bad lyrics and everything. Did not like it even a little bit.

Well to each his own, but I must say Black Diamond is a masterpiece.

Pretty cheesy. Good playing, but the music I agree is that soulless euro cheese IMO of course. Definitely not something I'd ever listen to.

Don't you thinks it's cool how they throw in the classical influences...the harpsichord sound at the start of Black Diamond...and you have to admit their tunes have an anthemic sing along quality to them....I know a bit cheesy, but great sounding slick productions. I caught them on the show Metal Evolution on VH1 classic.

Not really at all, but music is very subjective. You like that kind of stuff, I don't. No big deal can't agree on everything.

Kinda sounds like a speed metal Trans Siberian Orchestra. No reason to hate on it. Poor guy tries to start a thread on a band he likes and people dump on it.

I had a listen to "Black Diamond" - and while I agree it is rather generic-sounding Euro-rock - I still liked it!

Mind you, I am a BIG fan of cheese (in all its forms) so I don't know whether my endorsement means much in the great scheme of things!

Edit: I always have a bit of a 'thing' for the 'metallizing' of classical music; don't know why, I just do!

    Default Eagleheart

Wow...Check out the song Eagle Heart. The thing I like about this band is the melodies they come up with on the keys and guitar in the intro and then outro. Really catchy songwriting...It's almost as if you say...wow that sounds familiar. Try to get beyond the cheese factor...if it sounds good it is good....hmm where have i heard that before.

Dude if you like it that's all the matters. I think it sucks. But I also listen to some off the wall shit you may hate.

If you like Stratovarius, then Dragonforce would probably be another band you'd like:

But yeah, not really my cup of tea. I do like extra cheese in my music, and I do appreciate the musicianship in bands like these. However, I just have no connection to it. To me it all sounds like anime soundtrack music. Like, Pokemon. For some reason it just sparks nothing in me.

But like fuddman said, there is probably a lot of shit I listen to that you don't connect with, so don't let our criticisms stop you. By all means, keep posting shit about the bands you like, regardless of what others think.
