Hi all, cackmouse here. I'm a Dome poster without a home. I had to find somewhere to post this story so I wound up here.
I live in a real small town in northern PA and every year about this time we get a huge influx of deer hunters from all around the country. We call them "flatlanders" because the terrain around here is pretty much composed of mountains.
Anyways me and 2 friends are in the only fancy bar in town last night. This is where most of the "flatlanders" congregate because most of these guys have money. (you should see all the town sluts come out of the woodwork to hook up with these guys) You can tell the flatlanders because they are unfamiliar faces and usually wear their camoflauge outfits everywhere. There is about 20 or so people in the bar and this one flatlander in his 40's goes up to the jukebox and plays nothing but about 15 Van Halen tunes. I'm 27 so I'm thinking this is a little weird but cool. Later on the guy comes up to the bar beside us to order some drinks. I mentioned he was picking out some good tunes and he goes "man, I can sniff Van Halen from a mile away. I used to be a roadie for them back in the 80's"
I was like "NO WAY!!!" I've never even seen VH live so I was freaking. He introduced himself as Joe and brought out some old pics out of his wallet of himself with the band to prove he wasn't fucking with me, cause I did'nt believe him. I ended up talking with him for about half an hour, says he was up hunting and that he works in advertising now.
I asked him about the whole thing where DLR would pay a roadie 100 bucks if he ended up with the girl the roadie picked. He goes "Oh yeah except for one time" I asked him "Why" he goes "I won the lottery one night with a real cute blond and Dave says I'm only giving ya 50 bucks. I asked why and he said because the girl would only give him head and that's all because she was afraid of getting pregnant!!!"
We all got a good laugh off that one. Real cool guy and a great night. My buds really aren't all that into VH but really got a kick out of the story.
Just had to tell somebody about this!!!!

Their view of Van Halen:
"Didn't they have like, 5 singers?" or
"I really liked California Girls" or
"That Van Halen guy is a good singer, didn't he sing that Jump song?"
I think I am literally the only person in this town that is a big VH fan.

Not yet. Wait a few years.

"I really liked California Girls"

The video was pretty cool.

"That Van Halen guy is a good singer, didn't he sing that Jump song?"

No. Eddie is more adept at bitching, moaning and blaming than actually singing, or playing and composing.

I think I am literally the only person in this town that is a big VH fan.

Dude, that's totally F'd up.

WOW! GREAT story. Welcome to Forums.

I'm from a tiny town in rural Iowa where I was just about the only VH fan. Since I moved to Chicago, I've met a few more. But we're still few and far between. It's okay. Everyone's your neighbor on the Internet.

*Looks up above desk, at favorite Balance poster*

Well, Glenn, if *I* had been a roadie for VH, I'd probably carry one of those cardboard stand-ups of Ed around.

Hey, I live in Ankeny, 6 miles North of Des Moines, where the hell is Evanston?

As I am from CA you'll have to use Des Moines as a reference.
