I could be wrong in my thinking here but you would think with all that gear and money spent he would have at least taken the time to learn how to play the songs right!!!!

Playing was pretty unimpressive for gear like that.

    Talk about overkill.

Biting the bullet, not gonna continue the flame.. but his sound is awesome. It's a simple setup really looks like a lot but isn't .. the playing may not be dead on but I don't think I've seen anyone do any VH stuff dead on without catching flubs all over. Better than most i'll say.

I thought the tone was overly processed. Not a fan.

it just seemed to me that THEE only thing youre going to be able to play is van halen songs with that rig ...i know i know what did i expect right.

but itd be cool to see what other styles can be done with that rig....i mean for that money i better be able to do metalcore to classic rock to blues to jazz with just some knob and parameter tweeking.

ok i checked his other videos and hes even wearing the shirts ed wore on this tour.....wtf

I don't dislike the tone, but it doesn't strike me as either authentic Eddie sounding, nor does it seem like it's worth (or required) that much money to get. Seems plenty of people have pulled off very similar sounds with much more basic rigs (or even presets in things like guitar rig, or amplitube) - both of which would probably be able to get a more varied range as well.

I don't know. I think it's pretty cool. Overkill? Definitely especially if that is all he does with it(play VH at home) but we see overkill and obsession all the time here. Whatever floats your boat.

I'm less obsessed but if I had a unlimited budget for gear I'd never stop getting stuff, some VH related. Gear lust is never truly satiated is it?

I prefer a less is more thing with gear/tone anymore but I've read a lot of good things about that G system. Setups like that make it very easy to switch between things and opens up possibilities for a live setting. You can easily switch between tones and combos of sounds/gear with one click.

My experience in the past leaves me to think a lot of these multi effect things suck the natural tone out of your amp and axe but a lot of great pro players use them so I'm assuming they have come a long way in that department.

Here's a few vids I saw that gives you a little demo of that Gsystem. Peter Thorn is a great player he gives a little demo of his setup. gives you an idea how versatile a setup like that is. Some cool sounds in video two. His sound for black hole sun is great.

    This.

...to me, this rig seems to be a "one-trick pony" that can only almost do the one trick it's set up for.

As everyone has stated above, all of the early riffs this guy is playing sounds WAY too over-processed and wet. His "Eddie tone" really didn't fit my ears until he started noodling "Panama"...and then a little closer with "5150"...and then BOOM, that tone he has dialed in is nails for the OU812/FUCK stuff.

Of course, (to all of us) that shouldn't be much of a shock: Ed's "wettest" tone was from 86-93.

And again, once this guy starts moving into the Balance riffs, it starts to sound a little too wet again.

Ultimately, that's A LOT of IDENTICAL gear to "only" get THAT close...that's all I'm sayin'.
