    Default HSAS questions

I was always under the impression that they only did that brief Bay Area tour at the end of '83 and that their only bootleg was the MTV special/radio special (the one with the additional tunes not on the album).

Yesterday, I saw a couple sites saying that they also performed a couple of times in '84.

    Is this correct?
And are there any more audio or video bootlegs other than the common 11/14/83 San Jose show?

    Thanks in advance.

...and what's this shit from Wikipedia?:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hagar_S...ronson_Shrieve

"The band also performed a cover version of 'Bookends.'"

"The band toured briefly in California in 1984, adding rhythm guitarist Nick Sciorsci for live performances."

    Well, it's Wiki.

Is it possible that they performed a few dates to coincide with the Through The Fire album release that year?

    Just going on various websites...

HSAS released TTF in 1984 (haven't seen what month). They recorded it 9-21 November 1983 in San Francisco.

Hagar released VOA in July 1984, recording the album between spring-summer. Which means the earliest he was in the studio was in March 1984.

So...the only time it seems they would have toured again after the dates recorded on MTV/for the album would have been most likely January-February 1984. Did this magazine specifically say what months they performed?

Apparently by this point Journey was broken up, Shrieve released a solo album (Transfer Station Blue) in 1984, but again, the month of release is hard to find (catalogue #17023-2). Apparently HSAS was the only thing Aaronson did that year.
If I told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about what I've gone through over the last 20 odd years, what it took to finally get where I am, people just wouldn't fucking believe it. So it's pointless. I now realize that I can't change people's minds, and I really don't want to or need to try. I'm at peace with it, and that's all that matters. - Edward Van Halen

The source I saw was from guitars101.com:

H.S.A.S.- SAN JOSE, CA. 5-11-84 MTV CONCERT 80 MIN EX- AUD(425)
H.S.A.S.- SAN JOSE, CA. 5-11-84 WESTWOOD ONE BROADCAST 80 MIN EX+CDR(462)
    H.S.A.S.- SAN JOSE, CA. 4-5-84 90 MIN EX+CDR(718)
H.S.A.S.- WHAT WILL NEVER BE (UNRELEASED TRACKS) 25 MIN EX CDR(814)
H.S.A.S.- SAN JOSE, CA. 11-14-84 90 MIN EX+PRO VIDEO (DVD)
H.S.A.S.- SAN JOSE, CA. 1984 (NOT MTV SHOW) 30 MIN EX (997)

http://www.guitars101.com/forums/f12...eve-97698.html (scroll to the bottom of the page)

I saw that 5/11/84 date somewhere else online, too, but I'd say those are all mistakes and the only shows were what the Van Halen Encylopedia said (in late '83). Maybe they were confusing them with the day the concert was actually aired--not performed--in '84 on TV and/or radio, or even confused it with the release date of the album in '84.

Now "Bookends" and that Nick Sciorsci rhythm guitarist guy...I have no idea. Maybe someone just made that shit up for some strange reason and put it on Wiki and that's where other people got it from?

Guess "Bookends" is a Simon & Garfunkel song called "Bookends Theme" from their "Bookends" album. Definitely not on the HSAS bootleg.

I know they did a few shows, the westwood 1 mobile recording thingy followed them and recorded each show, I think I remember hearing that they did a total of 5 or 6 shows.

On one of the boots I have they open with In For the Kill and there is a keyboard intro that goes on for about a minute and a half, that might be this bookends thing (I've never heard the original so I can't say). I have a different version on cassette but I always assumed it was the same show with the order of the songs re-arranged for radio, I have not listened to the cassette version in YEARS so I don't know if this is the case but it's what I've always assumed.

Yeah I thought that keyboard intro might be it, too, but it only sounds "kinda" like "Bookends Theme."

I think there is an agreement that HSAS was an amazing band and it's a bummer than it didn't work out better. Even though of course by 1985 Sam needed to be available for 5150.
