Default If Sam sang on ADKOT.....

If you don't act like a Rothtard douche bag this could actually be interesting if you're a fan of both eras.

I can't be the only one that listens to ADKOT and wonders how Sam would have sounded on a few. The album is awesome as is but I gotta admit a few tunes might actually work real well with Sam's vocals instead.

    Tattoo - Dave

She's The Woman - All Dave, no question

    YAYB - Dave

China Town - Dave but I can hear Sam too

    Blood And Fire - Dave

    Honeybaby - Dave

    Trouble With Never - Dave

Outta Space - Sammy big time. Still a Top 5 song for me on the album but I say it sounds even better with Sam. I feel like Sam would hit it out of the park.

Stay Frosty - All Dave. Wouldn't want Sam anywhere near it.

Big River - Dave but I hear Sam too

Beats Workin - Sam. This is Dave's album low point IMO.

I'm not dumping on Dave so don't get your vagina's all twisted up. Just trying to objectively see the album differently.

Honestly....I never would have thought of this.....maybe because, IMO DLR is a very unique vocalist, it's hard for me to imagine other singers having athother take on a DLR led VH song.....In fact, even during the Hagar Era, I would cringe just a little bit when Sam would perform songs from the Dave Era....It just didn't sound right.

That being said, it would be interesting to hear what Sammy would have done with the source material from ADKOT.....In my profession we always say that if you take 5 different chefs...and give all of them 1 recipe to follow exactly to the letter.....you will get 5 vastly different dishes.....I think that theory hold true here as well.....Sammy, if handed the music Ed had for ADKOT, would have given us a completely different album......not better or worse....but different.

    But to answer the question.....I only really "hear" Sammy on 3 tracks.....I think he would have done good things with the music from;

    You and Your Blues
    Blood and Fire
    and
    Trouble With Never

I was thinking of it as Sam singing the songs as we know them, not as what he would have come up with for lyrics, chorus, etc.

A song like Outta Space really makes Dave push it. I hear that tune and think of how easily Sam could have sang that without sounding like he was working so hard. I bet it would sound killer. On the other hand, Stay Frosty is perfect with Dave. No way in hell that song sounds better with Sam.

I can't think of what the songs would sound like if Sammy sung them the way they are written now.....the only way I can wrap my head around it is to think in terms of what Sam would have done had he been in the room with Ed when written....So by that logic, none of the songs would have sounded any better with Sammy singing them the way they are currently written.....they are uniquely Dave's....

Interesting thought though.....since many of the songs on ADKOT were laying around since the 70's.....and 2 of them on my list I think are in Sammy's wheelhouse....I would imagine that all of them, at one point or another, were presented to Sam and he either passed on them or it didn't work out for whatever reason....

    Cool Topic Thought...

Trouble with Never is about the only tune I think I could see Sam doing.

Truthfully, when I think of Sam doing any of the songs I can't grasp it because of the change in lyrical content that would take place. Half the fun of the new album outside of deciphering Ed's playing, is deciphering Dave's lyrics.

First couple of times I heard YAYB it sounded very Sammy-esque to me. I can imagine him sounding really good on that track.

I honestly don't hear Sammy on these songs as written.
The vocal ranges are just too different.
When Dave gets up there you can feel it because he's a baritone like on the chorus of you and yer blues or on outta Space. That extra range can fool you into thinking this might be good for a tenor.

If Sammy sang them note for note the same it would not work, you would have to change the keys to let Sammy do his thing.Maybe She's the Woman might be good for Sammy: there is room there to raise the melody up into his range.

It's easier for me to make a list of songs I can't imagine Sammy singing on:

    She's the Woman
    HBSD
    Stay Frosty
~Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it.~

I keep associating YAYB with the unreleased stuff.....has a Sam Era vibe to me....I'd be willing to bet that that riff has been floating around Ed's brain since the late 80's/early 90's

I hear what you're saying, but there's no way Sam would have brought those lyrics and delivery to the table in the first place so it's hard for me to properly consider.

Sure, technically Sam would have an easier time with "Outta Space" for example ... but that song IS DAVE as far as lyrics and deliver. It's an "if a tree falls in the forest" issue for me haha
