    Default My Frankenstein Beak Neck

Obviously have not been around in a long time....too long. Not sure if this is the exact place to share this but wanted to show off my Frankenstein US Festival Beak neck I finished.
Although not on Franky long I have always been fascinated with the Beak look and decided to go for it. It includes the correct string retainer and the Jewel is in place as it was back then.
Featuresa KNE Norther Ash Franky body, Musikraft Light Birdseye Maple neck, Vintage 80's Floyd Rose, 1971 'D" mint quarter, Williams AttackBucker in bridge and one of my Working Replicators in the neck. I decided to go with vintage W.German Schallers for now until I can find a reasonable set of Gotoh crown heads like the real deal had. I went for making the case with logo even though I wasn't going to shell out $500.00 for a real Anvil case, it looks the part enough. I also did up the case candy stuff as it were as if it was a re-release special edition franky. That is to mess with the heads of some of my jamming buddies that I have baited with this being real...lol

So here it is. Hope you find it worth a look

Looks great Johnny! Fantastic! I was trying to get a set of crowns on ebay yesterday, but got outbid by $150 in the last 20 seconds... How's that pickup sound? The bridge.

Thanks for the compliment brother! Yeah those crowns are tough to snag without costing an arm and a leg. That;s why I went with the W.Germans for now, plus I like the look of them on it. The AttackBucker is great, it's very similar to the Duncan 78 pickup as far as tone is concerned. Real Brown sounding. If positioned right and height is set up right from the strings. John Williams who makes them is a buddy of mine that helped me develope the Replicator and from the time I first used one I was hooked. Very versatile pup for sure.

Thanks Rob for the compliment. The beak is one of my favorite looks for the guitar for sure! And the neck that Musikraft made for me is just incredible.

Instead of just selling a Frank, I think I'll just work so hard on one body and make all the necks to switch out on it, haha.

I think I'll hop over to see the build thread!

thats pretty much what I have decided to do after all these years. I have one frank that I absolutely love and I have the strat, hockey stick and beak necks for it and every once in a while I have to switch it out. Besides, it keeps it in the true spirit of Edward. Thats what he did right? He did not have more than one original..... but then again, having many franks is also a good idea.

either way, that beak neck looks killer

I know what you guys mean. At one time I had 3 of them assembled and figured I wasn't going to play that many of them. So I dismantled them and sold off the parts and then stripped the bodies down to wood again so I could sell them off. I kept pursuing the "one" that I'd be happy with and finally got it. So this Franky and my hot rodded Gold OLP are my babies now. Don't need more than that....at least for now. I think if I could get another one to look as this one did at the stage right before red I would leave it that way. What Franky may have looked like right before the red that night. Might throw up some of those pics so you guys can see what I mean. Really liked it like that but had to complete it.

Most of it happened naturally during the relic process as it gets pretty dirty and beat up just from chipping away at it with exacto knives and files. I did use a light touch of stain for it too, just wiped it on and then wiped it off after a little bit. Leaving what I wanted on in the right spots. If too much when drying I used 0000 steel wool to knock it back. I also used a combination of fullers earth toned powders and worked them into the wood and wiped off excess. really grunged it up before the red so that the red sat on top in an convincing manor.

Hope that answers it for you? if not feel free to ask for more info. Glad to help you any way I can.

That looks great. I'm a big fan of the beak era Kramer's and have a beak on my Franky as well!

Thanks AsIs I appreciate the compliment. Yeah it's one I wanted for a while after a few current Frankies looks. Wanted to try and replicate the look of it from the magazine pullout poster of it. I think I did it pretty well and feel like I own a piece of history now
