Default Proposed 2013 Van Halen Roth-Era live album

Since they hinted that they might continue the tour next year--and I'm assuming that's not just Japan and overseas, but rescheduling...OHIO and the rest of the U.S. cities they missed! And hoping for a couple new tunes since they said they had enough for a double-album in Guitar World....how about the long-awaited live album from the best live band on Earth as their next release? And definitely a double-album. I know, Dave's vocals live, but they're still the best. For fun and out of boredom, how about this:

LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE HERE TONIGHT…LIVE!

    Disc 1:

    1. NEW SONG
    2. NEW SONG
    3. NEW SONG
    4. NEW SONG
    5. Intro '83 (Us Festival)
    6. On Fire '78
    7. You Really Got Me '07
    8. Hot for Teacher '84
    9. She’s the Woman '12
    10. Runnin’ with the Devil '12
    11. Dance the Night Away '79 (live video version)
    12. Jamie’s Cryin’ '83 (Us Festival)
    13. And the Cradle Will Rock… '80
    14. Mean Street '08
    15. Drum Solo '78-'84-'12
    16. Tattoo '12

    Disc 2:

    1. Unchained '81 (live video version)
    2. Romeo Delight '08
    3. Beautiful Girls '12
    4. (Oh) Pretty Woman '12
    5. Blood and Fire '12 (Pittsburgh, PA)
    6. Somebody Get Me a Doctor '08
    7. Little Guitars '07
    8. I’ll Wait '08
    9. Everybody Wants Some!! '82 (Largo, MD)
    10. Ice Cream Man '07
    11. Eruption/Guitar Solo '78-'84-'12
    12. Panama '84
    13. Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love '78
    14. Jump '12 (New York, NY)

I tried to be as realistic as possible with it so I included more '07-'12 songs than the original Roth-era. Some of my favorites like like "ITO," "HAIL," and "DDL" (because they never played it of course) weren't included, but I think this would be the best tracklist given the songs they've done. I loved the "ICM" version from '79 Fresno because of the intro but left that off, too. All of their greatest hits plus a handful of their biggest non-hits and fan-favorites. I mixed it up as much as possible, too.

Started with "OF" because that's what they opened with on their first tour. And for the solos (leaving out Mike's because obviously they would), I thought a medley of their solos from their first tour with Dave in '78, their biggest tour with Dave at their peak in '84, and present-day in '12 would be interesting. And "EWS" from D.C. because of the story he tells during the breakdown, which I think is his best to date. I included the Us Festival opening because I think it's the best since it's their hometown, and "JC" from that show because of the Dave rap right before it (with the "Look at all..." and "I'm gonna fuck your girlfriend" trademarks). And "BAF" from Pittsburgh--because I wanted to and it's my fucking list.

Then, a home video/DVD of this or something as close as possible given the footage they have. And throw on the '78 music videos and "OPW" music vid that they left off Video Hits Volume 1 for whatever reason.

Then...down the road when they retire--hopefully in many years like the same age The Stones do when they retire--a BOX SET of 1 concert (audio and video) from each tour from all eras. That's my VH Holy Grail at least, and I'm sure I'm speaking for most fans/die-hards/psychopaths like myself. Of course including the '81 Oakland, plus some backstage footage. Especially anything backstage they filmed from '80 during that movie they were going to make. Also, the '84 ROTV footage with sound and anything else they want to throw in. Actually, most of all: something video from the club days since there is literally no footage of that in existence yet, despite the huge amount of audio bootlegs from that time.

And if no live album, how about another Best Of? I know, it's ridiculous, but if we could get some new songs out of it, why not? It will have been almost a decade since TBOBW anyways. So I thought, since BOVI left off a lot of their biggest songs, how about a proper BOVII?:

    BEST OF VOLUME II

    1. You Really Got Me
    2. Jamie’s Cryin’
    3. Ice Cream Man
    4. Beautiful Girls
    5. Everybody Wants Some!!
    6. (Oh) Pretty Woman
    7. Hot for Teacher
    8. I’ll Wait
    9. Best of Both Worlds
    10. Love Walks In
    11. Finish What Ya Started
    12. Runaround
    13. Top of the World
    14. Don’t Tell Me (What Love Can Do)
    15. Without You
    16. Tattoo
    17. She’s the Woman
    18. NEW SONG
    19. NEW SONG

And at least one fuckin' Gary song has to be on this one! And the accompanying video:

    VIDEO HITS VOLUME 2

    1. Eruption
    2. You Really Got Me
    3. Runnin’ with the Devil
    4. Jamie’s Cryin’
    5. Dance the Night Away (live video)
    6. And the Cradle Will Rock… (promo--have to have something from '80)
    7. Unchained (live video)
    8. Mean Street (another promo, why not)
    9. (Oh) Pretty Woman
    10. Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love (Us Festival)
    11. Why Can’t This Be Love (that music video that was probably not made by them)
    12. Best of Both Worlds (from LWAN)
    13. Top of the World
    14. Tattoo
    15. She’s the Woman
    16. NEW SONG

That was fun. God help me.

That is a fantastic idea, I wish I would of thought of it first.

For the HD blu ray DVD , they should utilize the latest cutting edge technology and include a special exclusive feature that projects a hologram of them playing live in front of your naked steaming eyes right in the comfort of your living room.

...and for the record, I would obviously rather have another new studio album next year instead, but I'm just being realistic.

Great idea DF.. Well thought out.

    Love the title!

Only comment is that I'm not sure about mixing old with new. They are such different versions (Dave's voice, Wolf, sporadic Ed, older, less enthusiastic crowds) that my 2 cents would be to have the '07 & 12 tours on a disc.

Then start releasing select tour's live disc's respective of those specific shows (best of that tour?) or various from the tour. Kinda like Pearl Jam.

Just keep anyone involved with RHRN out of the room! That includes the brothers!!

Yeah I was thinking about doing a "now and then" type double-disc. One from '07-'12 and one from '78-'84.

DFVH, what shows are you taking these songs from?

I like all those ideas, but they wont do a Best of Vol. 2 cause it will have to include Sammy stuff, and they WONT do that.
I think, if they make another best of, it will be all Dave stuff from the first 6 albums and ADKOT and maybe, 2/3 new songs. Thats what I can see coming next, if its not a new full album.

As far as live albums go. I dont think we will, but I can see a live dvd happaning next year. Maybe Eds been working on this while hes been sick to fill in time. You never know.
What is understood need not be discussed

You're probably right with that. Even though it's severely redundant, most bands still do it. Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Rush, etc. I'd do it like this:

LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE HERE TONITE (sorry, just think that would be a great title--"Live in Front of Your Naked Steaming Eyes!" would be a close second, especially for a live album):

    1. Eruption
    2. You Really Got Me
    3. Runnin' with the Devil
    4. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
    5. Jamie’s Cryin’
    6. Ice Cream Man
    7. Dance the Night Away
    8. Beautiful Girls
    9. And the Cradle Will Rock...
    10. Everybody Wants Some!!
    11. Unchained
    12. (Oh) Pretty Woman
    13. Jump
    14. Panama
    15. Hot for Teacher
    16. I'll Wait
    17. Tattoo
    18. She's the Woman
    19. NEW SONG
    20. NEW SONG

    VIDEO:

    1. Eruption
    2. You Really Got Me
    3. Runnin' with the Devil
    4. Jamie’s Cryin’
    5. Dance the Night Away (live)
    6. And the Cradle Will Rock... (promo)
    7. Unchained (live)
    8. Mean Street (promo)
    9. (Oh) Pretty Woman
    10. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love (Us Festival)
    11. Jump
    12. Panama
    13. Hot for Teacher
    14. Tattoo
    15. She's the Woman
    16. NEW SONG

...actually what would be best would be a couple of pro-shot live songs that we've never seen from the vaults. Anything except '82-'83 which we've already seen plenty.
