Neil probably smells like some National Treasures. Doesn't appear to have taken a bath since the Clinton Administration

Just thought I'd pass this article along to those interested in an alternative music format other than shitty MP3's. And since VH music may be offered in this new format (given Warner Brothers would appear to be on board), I thought it might be of interest to some VH fans. Not sure Interscope is included in the labels mentioned but I for one would love to hear ADKOT in this Pono format.

I think this is great (whether or not it belongs in main...)

I've been thinking for awhile about going to vinyl for better listening, but I'd much rather go with new technology created to sound good rather than to be small and portable... Go Neil!!

I'd love to hear "Fair Warning" in its entirety on Pono....I've only heard it on CD and cassette so I'm betting Pono would be way cool.

One thing about Neil, the guys always moving. Either new music, touring, business ventures, etc. And he does it all on his terms.

I think it's kinda neat and if they can convince the kids how much better it is, they might have something. If they don't convince the kids, we have another laserdisc, beta, hddvd, etc etc.

Most people, for better or for worse, are more interested in ease of use and portability than they are sound quality, at least at this point. And it's not as if people are averse to quality. Home theaters are nearly ubiquitous now and the quality is vastly superior in HD/Blu Ray to SD and DVD. But when it comes to music, quality hasn't been as important to consumers.

Believe it or not, most people have a hard time distinguishing 256 mp3s from 128, and often either from CDs. Many can; most cannot. Conversely, the transition from SD television to HD was stark, as most people trust their eyes and have not yet developed nuance in their hearing.

Apple has more or less left their music players in the dust, anyway. Your music player now is also your phone, portable web browser, access to email, text message device, social networking device, and portable computer. Or it is all those and not a phone (tablet). So, this company would have to convince people to carry a separate device. Some still do, like me, usually when they have a large collection (I'm using 100GB on my 160GB iPod Classic), so you might get those guys to switch. I'm dubious about this.

That said, Apple could probably use a little competition. The industry lost their chance to be proactive years ago. I don't foresee success here.

I get all that. So why not sell the technology to Apple or Samsung and put it in their phones?? Presto. The new "Samsung PONO"

I may be in the minority, but I'm interested in getting better sound quality and don't care if it is portable or not. I like listening to a new album through big, loud, non-portable speakers. The concept of hearing studio-quality sound in a home setting appeals to me.. It would be awesome to revisit classic albums with a new clarity.

I hope that Pono stays focused on sound and not hardware. Maybe even have a table top or component version for those of us who still have "stereo systems". I hope this effort doesn't die just because the device isn't sexy like an iPhone. There are plenty of sleek and slender devices to choose from if you can't tell a 128 Kbps mp3 file from a CD.
