Mistake one is waving a metal object at a cop. Just bad for buisiness.

Thai...a sharp pen is more dangerous in the hands of a crazy person than a gun. The rule cops use is "never within my reach." Meaning, a person is more dangerous within my reach, than outside of it. That's why police keep an arms distance when talking with anyone on a call. It gives them a buffer to get away if lunged at. Even in a wheelchair, a person, within arms reach with a pen, can cause a lot of damage.

Should a tazer been used, possibly. But if the guy had any type of coat, sweatshirt or thick top on, the prongs won't get through to make contact with the skin and complete the current circuit.

"Houston police officer shoots dead double amputee in wheelchair"

I wonder what dope came up with this headline. The way it reads says the cop shot a dead guy.

Why did the cop let a one-armed, one-legged man in a wheelchair, get "within inches to a foot" anyway?

Use some common fucking sense. You're a police officer, you're supposed to be oozing it.

I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face if I was that cop and that nut was swinging a pen in my direction.

I'm going to go out on a limb here (pun intended) and say the double amputee was in an electric wheel chair and closed the distance quickly. And if they were in a confined space, the distance cops use might not have been possible.

Also, if he had an electric wheel chair, it could've been a reason a tazer wasn't used. It could've electrocuted the guy and started a fire due to shorting out the unit.
