They're going for a serious tone with the classic Godzilla and two other monsters for him to battle.

Few concrete details have been revealed about the Godzilla reboot plot; though, Edwards says he and the credited screenwriters – which include Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son) and Dave Callaham (Doom, The Expendables) for a previous draft – intend to bring the franchise back to its roots, as a dramatic and serious disaster blockbuster which taps into the modern cultural zeitgeist (much like the original 1954 Japanese film dealt with the aftermath of the atomic bombings in WWII).

“I’ve always been interested in Godzilla and the ideas around him. I really wanted to see another Godzilla film and jumped at the opportunity. My main idea was to imagine ‘If this really happened, what would it be like?’ I want to take a grounded, realistic approach to a Godzilla film.” - Director Gareth Edwards

A giant lizard that fights other monsters?

Was there ever anything serious about that premise?!

I'm looking forward to this. Am I expecting an Academy Award winning movie? Hell no. However I am expecting them to stay true to Godzill'a roots and looks, unlike that total 1998 crapfest that was made.

I'm glad they are keeping it darker. Will it have camp in it? I'm sure, especially since Godzilla will be fighting other monsters. It wouldn't be Godzilla without some camp. I am just hoping to be entertained for about two hours with this movie.

Just put Gojira (1954) in my Netflix Queue. Kind of interested in seeing the original version. It says that the 1956 version of Godzilla with Raymond Burr is also included on the DVD, so it will be cool to see how they changed it for American audiences.

Default Vegas gets pwned in new banner for GODZILLA!!

Howdy do, everyone, Papa Vinyard here.

There are all sorts of cool promo posters and images coming out of the Licensing Expo that's currently going on in Las Vegas, and now, we have one via Coming Soon that depicts, appropriately enough, Vegas after an apparent stomping by the Big Green Guy. I don't know if this is showing something that actually happens to the movie, but I fucking hope so; we see L.A., New York, and even Chicago get blown-ed up all the damn time, but aside from MARS ATTACKS, Vegas usually gets a pass. Wouldn't it be satisfying to see tourist families and gambling addicts running for their lives as Gojira tears down all the tacky architecture on the Strip?

One thing's for sure: this image shows the kind of hell-fire damnation that the carnage in this movie will be shooting for. This time it's not just some crumbled buildings or holes in NYC skyscrapers. This looks like the freaking THIS IS THE END apocalypse, merely instigated by a radioactive lizard and whatever dumb-ass alien/creature that has the nerve to step up to him.

There's also an interesting quote in the press release specifically created for the event. Legendary and Warner Bros. slipped this tidbit in, hinting that kaiju battling will be part of this reboot:

"Featuring spectacular creatures, thrilling action, epic battles and a legendary monster, Godzilla provides the backbone for a monstrous merchandise offering for fans of all ages and enables compelling cross-category opportunities across mass and specialty retailers."

As Shock Till You Drop notes, they happen to mention the presence of multiple, "spectacuular" creatures alongside the titular beast, so it would seem that this green giant will have more to deal with than tanks and General "Thunderbolt" Ross.

So, I guess all that's left to say is…fuck yeah.

Think it's a stretch that Warner Bros. will premiere a teaser with PACIFIC RIM? 'Cause I don't.

Gareth Evans' GODZILLA opens May 16th, 2014.

Godzilla (2014) Comic-Con Trailer Description & Panel Recap: New Monster Revealed

    http://movies.cosmicbooknews.com/con...nster-revealed

Gareth Edwards' Godzilla (2014) Is The Biggest Monster To Date; Talks Part 2

Previous to the Legendary panel on Saturday that revealed footage of Godzilla, director Gareth Edwards participated in an extensive interview where he spoke about the monster and more.

Regarding the look of Godzilla, as we have seen in the latest movie poster as well as the concept statue, they seem to be going for more of an original approach, with Edwards stating more of a modern version.

"We've worked really hard to get the design just right, modernize it," Edwards offered. "I think if you literally did the original 1954 Godzilla - which was my favorite - it would not work; the guy in the suit aspect obviously wouldn't stand up today. The idea was if that creature really existed and you witnessed it back then, and you kind of ran back to Tojo, and you tied to make a suit. When you see our Godzilla, you understand they arrived at that, but it's like the literal, realistic version of that same species."

Gareth Edwards then takes a fan question from Twitter about Pacific Rim and his thoughts on the recent Guillermo Del Toro kaiju movie. Edwards says he likes it and offers more of his own take on the Godzilla movie.

"We are trying to take it very seriously; it's very suspenseful. You do have the big epic spectacle, but the sort of stylistically, the sort of films that we ended up referencing quite a lot were things from the late 70s and early 80s; the films that I grew up with and loved as a kid." Edward said. "So we try to go back to that vibe and pace and tone and hopefully people will be surprised. I think one of the things I'm most proud of is the screenplay is quite emotional," the director continued. "When you read it, the characters that drive us through this journey in the film, I hope that you really start to genuinely care about them. It was really important to me that the people you follow on this journey through all these events were people you were really rooting for and were real."

Another fan also asked if this Godzilla movie is the beginning of a new franchise, with Edwards responding he would like that to be the case.

"I don't look at it that way. I've tried to make the best film that we can as a I'm sure, I would love to play in this universe again. I have seen the love for Godzilla and what we have created, and hopefully if it does well enough they will invite me back to the party, and we'll see what happens," he said.

Edwards was then asked if Godzilla left room for more about the monster in later movies with the director not responding but smiling and laughing.

Gareth is also asked about the size of the Godzilla monster in the movie and offers it's the biggest one to date. Godzilla is listed at around 328 feet, so Edwards' monster will be slightly larger.

"I think I can say the tallest one that has ever been. Just about. It's like when they build the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building and they put a little antennae on and it's like it's the tallest one. We did loads of tests for the size, it's not like we just didn't pluck it out; we did all these tests we created and he is a certain size for a reason. You make him too big, you can't do any of the storytelling and have fun as much. If you make him too small he's not quite as scary. I feel like the height we mad him is just right for him."

Just as long as Godzilla doesn't jump up and down clapping his hands after he delivers an ass whooping I'll be happy. Really hated when they started doing things like that in those old movies.

Yes, a little more black and white Godzilla and a little less Simpsons voice over actors Godzzilla

The more I read about this movie, the more excited I am getting. Sounds like they are keeping it dark, and holding to Godzilla's roots and look. Not like that 1998 abomination.
