Recommendation - Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Hollowbody Electric

Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Hollowbody Electric

I bought the subject guitar this morning in wine red w/gold hardware. Got it for $499 and paid another $100 for a hardshell.

I've been looking for a hollowbody for a long time and haven't found one I liked below $1,500. While wasting some time at a Guitar Center a few weeks ago, I saw a gold Riviera P93 hanging on the wall and decided to play it for a while. Felt great, played great, sounded great. I wished it would have came in a different color, but little did I know it came in red w/gold hardware.

The pickups are fine: they're not all that, but I've been able to get some great sounds out of it. After all, I'm not going to play metal with this thing. Individual volume knobs for each of the three pickups is nice. It has a Bigsby trem & tailpiece.

It looks great. The wine red finish is nice, and the gold hardware accentuates it perfectly. There's some extremely minor finish issues around the f-holes, but I noticed this because I looked at it from about two inches away; no one will notice that unless they look for it. The black pickguard has an embossed Epiphone E on it, which looks cool.

I like the Riviera P93 better than the Gretsch Electromatic, Ibanez Artcore, and the Epiphone Emperor. It's better balanced and feels better. At this price, it's a friggin' steal!

I have so far. I still can't believe this guitar was only $500! It's a steal! Seriously!

Congrats man! You mentioned minor finish flaws around the F-holes....Nothing to worry about at all. I've seen what I would consider to be much more major on USA Gibson's for much more money. Like, oh....quarter size chucks of paint flaking off ahead of the tailpiece insert, or clumps of glue not cleaned up around the fretboard tongue prior to finishing. Think a little minor F-hole detail is not an issue at all given the price. Epiphone have always made pretty nice semi-hollows. A friend of mine has one of their DOT 335's, and with the 57' Classic pickups he put in, it's every bit the shit!
    Nice score.

The Peavey JFX 335 style guitars are very well built guitars for the money. I've got several customers who are using them live instead of their Gibson 335's.

One, their not "valuable", and two, they sound good out of the box. You can also upgrade their pickups with either Burstbuckers or the Dimarzio Eric Johnson's and have an awesome live guitar.

Those Epiphones are great guitars too. I find you have to play a few of them to find the "good" one, but they're great guitars for sure.
