Default 1980s Skateboarding - Powell Peralta, Bones Brigade, Animal Chin, Tony Hawk ect

Didn't see any thread around here for 1980s Skateboarding, so just wondering if any other of you old guys were into skating back in the 80s. Or for our younger members the 90s or 00s.

I bring this up as Stacey Peralta of Dogtown and Powell/Peralta fame has a NEW documentary coming out about the Bones Brigade era.

The new trailer looks pretty fucking great. Bones Brigade the rise of 80s skateboarding.

    Tony Hawk
    Steve Caballero
    Lance Mountain
    Mike McGill
    Tommy Guerrero
    Rodney Mullen

You can also get a FREE download of "The Search for ANIMAL CHIN" video from back in the 80s. My kids have already watched it a few times. Some great memories. The cloths are pretty epic to, 80s skate fashion...haha...

Not a skater but enjoyed that movie Lords of Dogtown and the documentary of the same bunch, think it was The Z boys of Dogtown, something line that. Neat seeing what all those guys looked like and their take on the whole deal.

I never rode boards, but I was big into the BMX/Freestyle thing back in the 80's. Man, I miss those days like crazy...

Bob Haro, RL Osbourn, Martin Aparijo, Mike Dominguez, Eddie Fiola etc , even some of the old racers like Stu Tompson & Harry Leary, these guys were like heroes to me when I was a kid.

I watched an interesting doco on Mark "Gator" Rogowski (STOKED: the Rise and Fall of Gator) a few weeks ago. I remember hearing years ago that he got himself into a bit of trouble, but I didnt realize that it was that serious... It was funny listening to all the pros from back then ripping into people who used to wear the Vision Street Wear stuff... Preppies....

There is a great doco on the early days of BMX called Joe Kid on a Stingray which is awesome. Its a shame there arent as many BMX docos as there are Stateboard ones.

I skateboarded about every day from age 12-15 (before I got a driver's license ). I rode Brand X "Weirdo" boards with Independent trucks and Rat Bones wheels. Most skating was on the street, though I occasionally rode a half-pipe that was in the neighborhood.

In 1985 or '86 I saw Mike McGill, Steve Caballero, and Jesse Martinez skate at a skate festival sponsored by Reach For The Beach (I think that was the name) at White Marsh Mall (North of Baltimore). Suprisingly, Jesse Martinez was the professional skater that was the most impressive of the three.

Some good stories. Surprised more of our SOCAL group hasn't checked in.

    ++++

Anyways my first board back when I was a kid in the 80s was a PP Tony Hawk. My son still has it and it is up on his wall.

It was more of a ramp/pool type deck so I got rid of it for the newer Tony Hawk model.

My brother had a Steve Caballero.

But, as I got more into street skating in 87ish I went with Santa Cruz. I had a Jeff Kendal with the graffiti graphics. Indys and OJIIs

A ton of good times back then.....

Stacy Peralta's Dogtown and Z-boys doc is great. Cool classic rock soundtrack.
