Default Steve Vai comments on A Different Kind Of Truth

    Taken for a recent interview:

"I was really happy to hear how great Edward was playing. I mean, I was afraid he was losing it; we were all concerned. But I think that heís in really great form. As a matter of fact, he sounds as good as he ever has to me, and frankly, Iím hearing Dave hit notes that he couldnít hit when I was recording him. And I think the record is really powerfulóitís kinetic. I canít listen to the whole thing at one time because itís almost too powerful, in a way. But Iím happy with it. Iím really happy for them and Iím glad to see them doing it."

Another great quote from the interview:

"Edward Van Halen is a guitar god of the highest order. I have immense respect and love for Edward, you know? I would probably be playing the guitar very differently if he never came along. Heís a totally inspired person."

Gotta love Vai, he always has great things to say about VH, especially Dave & Ed.

Here's the link to the entire thing: http://www.examiner.com/article/q-a-...th-part-1-of-2
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union." -DLR

    Thanks for posting the interview.

Not only have I always loved Vai's playing, I have always respected him.

That's why I find the pre-release reviews of ADKOT really 'odd'; people can have different opinions, although ADKOT is so good, I find 'weird' those few people who trashed the album.

I play songs off of ADKOT daily. It makes me proud to be a VH fan.

Vai's take on ADKOT solidifies what we've already known...

His comment about Kim Mitchell's "Kids in Action" is interesting, I could see DLR and Vai tearing that up.

Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Steve and Mikey should get together and write a "how to" on being classy. We all have a lot to learn from them.

The only point I will take a difference with is Dave hitting notes he couldn't hit before? Otherwise spot on.

He just didn't add "and shouldn't be trying to hit those notes because they sound horrible", though he was probably thinking it.

I hear DLR hitting higher notes on "ADKoT" -- "Outta Space;" "Tattoo;" "Big River;" "Bullethead;" and "Beats' Workin'" come to mind immediately.

Personally, I don't like DLR's tone on these high notes as much as his baritone -- but to Vai's point... The high notes on, say, "Outta Space," are higher than anything I can think of on "Eat 'em And Smile" or "Skyscraper."

I just listened to "ADKoT" again today -- and IMO, Vai's right: it's extraordinary... I still can't believe it's this good.

Going to see Vai on August 31. Can't wait. He is such an awesome player. I always admired the respect he gives Eddie. Love his " I would probably be playing the guitar very differently if he never came along" line. When I listen to Satch and Vai I can hear so many little runs that were completely inspired by Eddie.

I also love his "I canít listen to the whole thing at one time because itís almost too powerful, in a way". I remember the first time listening to ADKOT on my way home from work. As soon as I got home I posted on the links that "I felt like I just got raped by a guitar."
