Default Live Right Here Right Now

Watched it this morning for the first time in a while. I'm a little confused about how much was dubbed in the studio after the fact. I was watching pretty intently and man, it sure as shit sounded live to me. Other than the CD version with Won't Get Fooled Again, what exactly is not live??

I know this release gets shit on pretty bad around here but I enjoyed the hell out of it, always have. Yeah, I wish they didn't bounce between both nights, but that doesn't bother me that much. Visually it's a good show to watch and Ed's playing is smooth as silk. It's great to have something like this from the FUCK era.

I was watching Eddie's solo from RHRN yesterday and i say it was dubbed.

Think the whole show was dubbed.

Well I'll tell ya, I'll have to watch it again because I'm not seeing it to that extent. My impression was always that they used the live versions of the music from both shows and spliced them together.

I understand there was studio dubbing afterwards but it's not jumping out at me to that extreme. If it was dubbed that much then kudos to whoever did the edit because it's a masterful job!!

It's been awhile since I've watched it, but I always thought the background vocals sounded a little too studio perfect.

I'm with DD on this one. I think people are picking it apart way too much.

    Just crank it and enjoy.

ATBL was a studio production. Never once played on the FUCK tour, and if you listen to any 5150/OU812 boot, it was NEVER played the way it was on RHRN. Too fast and abrupt to be something that was legitimate.

Love Walks In also was a studio production. The way it is on the CD is how they played it on the RHRN Tour, but not accurate to how it was on the 5150 Tour, which was the only time it had been played prior to '93.

Won't Get Fooled Again is a given. They didn't "fool" anyone there

And Dreams was also done in the studio. They played it rarely on the 5150 and OU812 Tours as it was, and it was always Ed on keyboard switching to guitar for the solo (which he would play as the rhythm section to start and not the actual solo). Dreams did not receive a live interpretation during the FUCK Tour either.

The DVD is all legit, I think the video was edited totally poorly but I do believe everything there musically is the band with minimal editing. The CD is a sham.

Ok, well that makes sense. I was judging the production of it by the DVD only, not the CD, and the DVD to me sounds all live.

I don't think I've listened to the CD since it came out and honestly can't recall ATBL or Dreams one bit or even the setlist on the CD. I've always watched the DVD instead. Thanks for the info.

I am one of the most vocal critics of the RHRN cd here.

As for the DVD. Not a huge fan either...lol... BUT at least they played the songs from this dvd on those 2 nights in Fresno 1992....lol...

BUT the sound quality was HEAVILY produced and fixed. They make it almost to "Perfect" and sterile if you know what I mean. It was pretty much like just watching a MTV type video.

Here is some comparisons for example.

Here is a "Soundboard" recording from the famous DALLAS free show in 1991. It is a raw soundboard that is mixed live, but not studio fixed.

    TOTW

    Judgement Day

    ++

Here is a "LIVE" video for the Top of the World single that was even on MTV for a bit. It was filmed LIVE in Sacramento, CA in 1991. I was there.

    Semi produced, but not extreme.

    ++++++++++++

Here is a real fun one for comparison. The Fresno 92 show for RHRN was also recorded for radio broadcast from the soundboard.

Here is CABO WABO from that show.

    Pretty RAW.

Top Of The World is easily a Top 5 Van Hagar song for me. I know I saw it in '91 but can't remember if I did in '04 in New Jersey.

Also think I saw it in '01 (?) with Sam and Wabos but not positive. Damn alcohol those nights is clouding my memory.

One of my favorites as well, can't remember if they played it in '04 or not when I saw them.

But, I have tried to remove that show from my memory.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

And, you know something? Despite all the criticism Sam gets for his lyrics, I just love the verse:

Oh, I know you wanna touch
I got to have a little taste
I just wanna sink my teeth in that
Fine piece o' real estate. Yeah

Now, there's a man who loves his ladies and makes no bones about it!
