Default Chad Smith talks new Chickenfoot...

It's been a year since CHICKENFOOT released its latest album, "III", and fans are already wanting more new music from the supergroup.

CHICKENFOOT drummer Chad Smith, who is busy touring with his main band, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, tells VH1 Radio Network's Dave Basner that it may be at least twelve months before another CHICKENFOOT CD sees the light of day.

"I just talked to [singer] Sam [Hagar] over the weekend and, you know, [guitarist] Joe [Satriani] is busy doing his thing, he does this guitar [tour], G3 or something, with other guitar players, and they go around. He's on tour, he's coming back, I'm going to see him in Oakland next week. And I think he wants to make another solo album and I'm busy through April. [So] maybe next year we'll get together [to start putting together the third CD]."

"III" sold 42,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 9 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's self-titled debut opened with 49,000 units back in June 2009 to debut at No. 6.

CHICKENFOOT's most recent touring lineup included legendary drummer/musician Kenny Aronoff, who was filling in for Smith while Chad was on the road with RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.

Looks like it'll be awhile. That's fine by me, it looks like we will get another CF album in time

CF is too good not to make a 3rd album. The first two are very different sounding so it would be cool to see which direction they take the next one. I'd like to hear more of a CF 1 sound because Joe's tone had more of an edge to it that I like.

VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I agree/... As well, the first cd had a much lighter tone / vide to it... I much prefer the first to the second cd... Maybe they should call it cfII

I completely agree with this...they said CFIII was more refined because they spent much more time with it, whereas CFI was experimentation/jamming type feel.

Look a song like Down the Drain, and the power it has..and that was just Joe noodeling around that turned into a great song..

I find one of Joe's "problems" is he IS too much of a perfectionist...he sounds much better live where they are jamming the songs...it's more raw and to me makes for better music.
Finally trying to pick up guitar after too many years.

I hope for the third album that everyone is able to record AND tour and promote the shit out of it. I thought that CFIII was good but kinda fizzled out after awhile. Especially with the short tour and without Chad. Yes, Arnoff is a great drummer but CF is Joe, Sam, Mike AND Chad.

I still find myself in the minority that liked III more than I.

Was going through my library today and making some playlists and I took about four or five more songs from III than I. Something about it just really stuck with me, but it took a couple months for that to happen.

Hopefully the next one can leave the same impact

I also prefer III over the first album. Both are fun, but III also has a deeper vibe to it, which sticks more.

Hope the next album does come and gives us a new twist of CF. Just hopefully not too bluesy. Throw some seriuos juju in there, please - pun definitely intended!

Hmmmm.... How about Chad AND Kenny!??? Two drummers, no waiting.

I was extremely disappointed in the tour schedule for III. I'd gladly go to either Philly or Baltimore. AC sucks. I saw the Road Test show in Philly and it was awesome. Both the crowd and band were incredible. In AC, the band was awesome, but I didn't like the crowd.

I'm wondering of Fry Day will come to fruition on the next album...? I can only imagine with a band name like Chickenfoot, what the meaning behind Fry Day could possibly be....
