Default should vh beef up the stage?

i think the stage and lighting for this tour was very average. the lighting and stage setup last tour was much better. although the '04 stage setup was odd and cramped, the lighting that tour was great i thought.

come to think of it the 98 and 95 tours were pretty simple stages as well. buddy of mine posted some pics from the chili peppers at staples the other night and the stage and lighting looked awesome.

i mean it's not imperative but stage and lighting setups are fun and really add to the show.

the big screen kicks ass though. i could do without the still shots while they are playing. i also wish they would have a camera guy on stage to get closeups of the fellas along with big al. be cool to see al up close on some of these songs

    Great idea!

Staging & lighting can definitely add a lot... I remember seeing the Rolling Stones on the "Bridges to Babylon" Tour, and -- even though it was excessive, with this long mechanical bridge and everything -- the band played an acoustic set on a small stage right near my seats... I loved it, and I'll always remember that show, primarily b/c of that moment, which was created by staging.

My older brother saw DLR's "Skyscraper" tour when he was 12, and he still talks about the boxing ring that came down from the arena ceiling.

These types of things help to make shows stand out.

I have always thought VH stage set ups were pretty pedestrian, no matter who was at the mic.

They can add to the show.

DLR's Skyscraper and ALAE shows were pretty cool set ups, but other than that, I can't think of any VH related stage set ups that were memorable.

The rings in '04 I guess was kind of cool, but the show I saw sucked so bad it didn't matter what they had going on.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

You gotta look at it from a cost/benefit perspective. Bands don't make their money from record sales anymore-- they make it from touring. A big visual show is great from a fan point-of-view, but would it really put more asses in seats? Would it sell more merch? In other words, would it be worth cutting into what they get to keep out of the take?

money is always the determining factor. i'm interested in what people think would be neat to see, not so much a cost analysis of everything; although again, i see where you are coming from

    Best stage eras (IMO):

And the OU812 Tour stage (cannot find a good pic of it).

I'd like to see them with a Balance tour type of stage these days. they are too old now to use it all anyways. But I do miss the pyro, now we get the much cheaper confetti!

unlikely to sell you many more tickets and almost certainly not enough to justify the costs.

I really liked the stage this tour. I think they can do cooler stuff with that giant screen.
More animated full screen stuff in orchestration with the lighting to set some wild moods in the arena during different songs. I don't feel the screen and lighting were used to their coolest potential.

Also bring back the fking burning gong and giant ass old school VH symbol.

Have that symbol pulsate to a dark arena before the spot lights search the crowd as VH erupts and tears off faces.. and shit. lol

I haven't seen a stage yet that impresses me more that the 1984 stage did.

I did like Roth on the surfboard back in 86. Them days are long gone... I thought the stage was fine and the screen was perfect.

Bring back the fair warning stage. From the 81 footage I've seen it looks really cool.

The staging is pretty cool. This isn't Pink Floyd though. They guys are running around on stage and being active. You don't need the stage to look like an alien spaceship when the band them selves are running around and having fun.

Pink Floyd's stage shows were always very theatrical, not just because it would be cool to do that, but also because they were self aware enough to realize no one wants to stare at a bunch of blokes standing in one place all night.

    Why not both?

Many hard rock acts put more into the stage show than VH does, by a lot.

I don't think anyone is complaining, but it would be a cool thing for them to do next time out. Pretty sure it won't happen.
