    Very cool.

Did a quick search of the ALAE cover and found this...Off topic but kinda cool as it's ALAE related. Never saw this b4. Kinda matches the spirit of DLR and that tattoo. lol

    Thanks,

Yeah, I saw that boxset. Looks really cool and it's certainly not anything that you would see now-a-days. ALAE is not a masterpiece, but I maintain that it's a fine album. Always liked the devil. Not sure if it was commissioned for the album or if it's from something else.

I would buy that promo box set, just because I think it is cool, not that I have a large amount of love for the album.

I like that tattoo a lot... I can see ppl taking it out of context, LOL, but it's a great design.

I saw on YouTube that DLR originally had a different cover for "ALAE," which was banned in the UK... Does anyone know what that was?

It was going to be called "Cut N' Out" and there was a devil with a pair of scissors at the crotch. Not sure if the devil is the same one that was used for the ALAE album.

Funny what was considered risque in 1991. Amazing how the video for the title track was also banned. Compared to what's acceptable now, all that seems so tame.

If I remember correctly, he even had a different working title to the album.

    Can't remember it though.

A t-shirt with just that devil on it would be cool -- all black, with the red logo... It's too bad that album came out in '91 -- tour t-shirts from that time generally look kinda like zubaz pants.

I like "A Little Ain't Enough" -- IMO, "A Lil' Ain't Enough;" "Drop In The Bucket;" "It's Showtime;" "Tell The Truth;" "Lady Luck;" and "Baby's On Fire" are all above average (or above) songs.

If it's edited like a traditional VH/DLR album -- 30-40 minute running time -- it'd really good... But it's not.

IMO, "Your Filthy Little Mouth" -- minus "A Little Luck;" "Cheatin' Heart Cafe;" the Jamaican rap on "No Big Ting;" and -- definitely -- the remix for "You're Breathin' It" -- is a good album... With them, I think it's the equivalent of Vodka cut with equal parts water. (Luckily, iTunes let's me remove these moments and add "Mississippi Power.")

I agree. Take out "Hammerhead Shark," the "Pleasure Dome" of this album and maybe remove "40 Below," the "Man on a Mission" of ALAE (which I actually like) and it would have made for a leaner album.

As is, I'd give it a solid 3.5 (of 5) stars.

I dig YFLM, but that's not the majority opinion among most fans here.

Hammerhead Shark and 40 Below, while they are admittedly beyond stupid, I find them humorous, and have always liked them.

"Hammerhead Shark" is the one track that I've never been crazy about. "40 Below" is what I would call "good filler."

The title track, "Lady Luck" and "Drop in the Bucket" are all excellent, IMHO. "Lady Luck" in particular, is just a great song, an underrated gem, in the VH/DLR universe.

As I said in the other thread, I think that ALAE is about as good as what VH where doing at the time with Sam. I enjoyed both this and F.U.C.K.

With regard to the tattoo, it's a tad redder than the way it looks in the photo.

I've got 2 great songs; 4 very good songs; and "316" rounding out "F.U.C.K." 1 great song; and 5 very good songs on "A Little Ain't Enough." VH went classic rock, whereas DLR went blues rock -- that it's not apples to apples makes for a difficult comparison. "OU812" and "Skyscraper" is the only apples-apples comparison I can make. "Skyscraper," IMO, is 2 great songs; 6 very good songs, (all poorly produced.) "OU812" is 2 great songs; 2 very good songs, (all poorly produced.)

"5150" and "Eat 'em and Smile," IMO, being a matter of taste -- with "5150" having more excellent songs, but "Eat 'em" more consistent, and holding up better today.

"Your Filthy Little Mouth" has moments of excellence & embarrassing, IMO -- sometime in the same song.

For example, "No Big Thing" with those excellent bridges ("All I'm leaving/ When it's time to go..." DLR's a master of these sitting side-by-side with a middle 8 of unintelligible Jamaican(?) something or other and a humming solo... This from the man who wrote "Panama." (I can't help but think he was took some bad advice on that track... Excellent lyrics though... And what's with an "Urban NYC Mix" of a non-single, tacked onto the back of an album that desperately needs consistency..?)

It's hard to tell, but I am wearing a =VH= shirt in that picture. You van make out the H=.

As I've said in the other thread, a lot of hard rock albums, weaker than ALAE, had more success, i.e, Warrant, Poison.

If ALAE had been released in 1989/1990, it could have been more successful. By 1991, however, change was in the air...
