Default When Do You Think We'll Get the Next Van Halen Album?

So, now that ADKOT tour is dwindling, what are you predictions for when we'll be hearing new VH again?

    Indicators that bodes well:

    - They wrote a bunch of tunes that didn't make the album.
    - Ed's clean and not so cynical about writing new music anymore.
    - Wolfgang loves spurring his pops on to write new stuff.
    - Attendance was good for the 1st and only half.

    Indicators that don't bode well:

    - Mysterious delays and cancellations.
    - Dave's sketchy on again/off again voice.
    - Album sales were ok, but the financial incentives are not what they once were.
    - We've heard a million times about (5 albums in the can), so who knows how much material is really there.
    - Just a general history of disappearing and reappearing

So, did Eddie and company come out like Punxsutawney Phil and see their shadow, or are they ready for Spring?

IMO We'll have a new album by February of next year.

They have the material. They have the spark. They are seemingly working well together. I am going to stick my neck out on this one and say that it's happening. Rewind exactly one year to the day, August 14 2011... none of us knew exactly what was going to hit us the way ADKOT came about, with the announcement of the album, the Roxy shoot, the tour dates announcement, then the leaking of the track list, and THEN the single release. All of that came out of the blue. Before all of that happened, all we knew was that an album was being made - but we didn't know it was actually going to be released.

I think - I hope, with this album it's a case of history repeating.

I'd say in the next 2-3 years. But knowing Van Halen, maybe 15 years from now.

One thing I think leans towards hearing a new album sooner rather than later is the age factor of Dave, Ed and Al. All three are pushing 60 and sadly they just don't have time on their side anymore to go 3-4 years apart per album/tour. So I believe if they are all healthy and wanting to strike while the iron's hot they will get things going pretty quick. I seem to think from Eddie's comments in some of these articles they are NOT done so I expect to see them much sooner than later.

If they do indeed have several songs already in the can and maybe only have a few songs that Dave would need to record vocals for then I am optimistic we could see the follow up for ADKOT sometime next year (maybe early summer). In a perfect world the guys will record stuff through the holidays and have it ready to go for mid 2013!!

I do think though for the next tour they will have to get a little more creative as in getting another big rock band to share the bill or (and this is more likely) spread the tour out with shorter legs and with more off days in between shows and maybe not hitting as many smaller markets as they have done in the past (which would suck) but it may be the way to go for the boys next time out.

Late 2015. The tour postponements slowed their momentum so they have to finish those tunes, and then don't forget, they still need to record.

I don't even expect to get another one. But if we do, it's gonna be awhile. Album turnover ain't what it used to be, and VH ain't the fastest machine in the world.

It's even difficult to guess with this band.

    I'm thinking early 2014.

I don't believe that the "A Different Kind of Truth" tour is finished -- IMO, VH planned for this tour to go through this summer into next year, but DLR's voice started ailing sometime during mid-March, (e.g. that's when the blower complaints began... IMO, DLR's vocal difficulties are medical -- not age-related -- and that's obvious when one listens to how well he sang in '08.)

Also: this fanbase is seriously ADD -- and I say this as someone who has ADD... VH doesn't release an album for 14+ years -- in Feb, the band releases an implausible, against-all-odds -- maybe the best comeback album in rock history... And 6 months later: "when do you think we'll get the next Van Halen album?"

Regardless, I believe that DLR's vocal issues are forcing VH's team to call an audible -- and I'd bet, given the public courting of the NFL, it involves the Super Bowl (in connection with a tour re-launch, or new album and tour.) I believe that by then, DLR's voice will be in "game shape," so to speak -- and then VH will do this as they wanted to this year.

During the time Van Halen was on tour this year in the US, the only band that grossed more than VH was Roger Water's... In all likelihood, "ADKOT" will be one of 2012's top 20 best-selling albums in the US... February, I believe, they'll release an album -- or single, or EP -- and a tour.

LOL. I spat out my coffee when I read this. I agree. But I think it was even sooner that the "when is the next album coming out?". People who weren't satisfied were already moving on to the next one.

This is exactly right. I'd say the odds are roughly 50%-70% (at best) that we'll ever get another one but even if we do there's no way it'll be before 2015. Even major bands of roughly their generation that have been completely functional/happy and consistently active like Rush and Iron Maiden take many years between studio albums these days. There's no reason Van Halen has to follow that pattern but given that even a short gap between albums is about 3 years now and you can never be sure what the dysfunction level of the band is from month to month anyway plus Ed's on and off problems with cancer and sobriety I don't see any reason to even be thinking about it until we know they're in the studio recording new songs. It sure would be nice to get a live dvd in the meantime but I don't have much hope there, either. I'd love to be wrong, though.
