Roth Radio 2006 questions. Any Hindsight?

Having collected DLR on radio from VH days & solo days... especially during his 2002 radio station tour... and not forgetting his very cool cryptic internet broadcasts from the late 90s...

I was quite puzzled by his 2006 radio reign.

    question:

Was all the drama behind the scenes faked?
Was his short lived radio career all worked out ahead of time just to buy time for the network to change to that Radio Duo that followed Roth?

... I felt it was so strange to hear DLR white and bitch and moan as much as he did. (which Is why I doubted the veracity whole situation).

It had such potential ... but the ulterior motives got in the way of what could have been amazing broadcasts especially compared to his earlier radio experimental appearances.

Any hindsight insight into that whole slice of the story?

    Thanks in advance.

Here's what led to Dave's demise on radio...he wasn't Howard Stern and he couldn't replace him.

hey Brett, I agree with you completely.

However my question is how much of that was a staged drama.

Dave's earlier radio-like things were stellar... but this seemed purposely below his usual par.

I just wondered about this point.

Again, I agree with you that of course he isn't Howard.

He didn't have enough stations. I could get him out of a Philly station for about 15 min of my commute to Baltimore from Hanover PA. No station in Baltimore had him. I liked what I could hear from the little I got to listen. You can't be Howard Stern thats like taking over for Peyton Manning.

Was this during the launch, or more toward the end of the road?

I already in Japan at that time so I was only getting part of the whole picture.
And I do have that 3 disc set of the "best of" his radio reign.

    Thanks for your comment.

    Warm regards,

I enjoyed Dave's radio show. Following Stern made it destined to fail.

He had about a zero percent chance of being successful following Howard.

He also would have benefitted from having a professional co-host. Not saying DLR isn't professional, but there is a difference in knowing how to run a four hour radio show and keep it focused, day after day after day.

His radio show had great moments, but a lot of it was either really boring or was full of DLR's non sequitur ramblings.

Also, and maybe the main thing, he was a TERRIBLE interviewer, while that is Howard was and still is best at.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I thought he was good, but not what people were expecting. I liked his interviews, but not his tiki lounge stuff. comparison to stern was impossible.
