Default EVH Wolfgang Custom factory Nitro finish

I was wondering why they weren't doing the Custom's in Nitro to begin with a few weeks ago since they were going for more of a vintage deal with them...

Sweet guitar but that price is insane. I just couldn't spend that much on a bolt on neck guitar. For 4k plus tax i'd get a Les Paul historic.

I want one but it is WAY too expensive.

For that $$$ I'd get a really nice LP.

It's not a bolt on neck...

As far as LP's go... The EVH is Fender's Les Paul... 24 3/4 scale, four knobs, set neck, etc...

You're right. I've joked to friends that it's the EVH Les Paul. Identical in every way but the body shape. Quite possibly better construction quality as well. I'd buy it over an LP of similar price any day. I'd likely get a pro to make me one first for half that price though. I always say that there is NO guitar worth over 2000-2500 dollars. Beyond that, it's all vanity and "compensation" to me.

Just picked up a mint "used" Wolfgang Custom (1st series). Ordered it from Guitar Center in Phoenix, AZ. Hats off to the staff and the store manager for making this sale as painless as possible.

I have (2) 1st year Peavey Wolfgangs, one is a Sunburst and the other is Black. I love them both. I wanted to get a EVH model, but just could not see the logic behind buying "almost" the same guitar. I immediately liked the customs, however to buy new was a completely out of my price range, or so the wife says. I put off buying until a saw a video with Chip Ellis talking about some of the changes that are being made to the customs. The next series will have a locking nut installed (Why??), the neck will be fatter, and they are going to shave off some of the bodies thickness and the cutaway will be changed to allow better accessibility to the upper frets.

I decided that if I was ever going to get one it was now, since I didn't care for the changes. So I did and here she is. I love her. She's heavy but plays like a dream.

    Peace!

I'm just shooting in the dark here, but my guess is
Probably because nitro, and even acrylic lacquer has become such an pariah with the EPA, especially in California which is their primary target due to it's famous air quality issues. Gibson still uses it, but their State law probably still allows it to be practical for an exclusive finish. They probably would have to pay through the nose in permits, and environmental/workplace safeguards to use it on a larger scale. Even in my area, getting lacquer is much harder than it was, and even other types of paints both professional, and consumer brands are under EPA scrutiny as well now.
Take a look at Krylon as well as an example of how far it's gone. For years, their acrylic lacquer was one of the most easily applied, user friendly consumer paints around, then the EPA mandated they change their formula to an oil based enamel.
It's still good paint, but not near as good as the original.
It's the same in auto shops too. Lacquer was a favored finish because of it's smooth flowout, and consistency. Now you be hard pressed to find it used anywhere other than specialty shops, or where you would have to do a color match on an existing lacquer finish.
Other than that, pretty much everyone uses poly now in the professional finishing industry.

It's a nice looking guitar, but man that's a hefty price!
