Default EVH with Simon and Garfunkel Sound of silence

Eddie performing with Simon and Garfunkel im unsure on what year but i thought some of us might find interesting and im sure not many of us have seen this.

Note: the video starts with the end of the won't get fooled again at 5150 and Eddie comes on stage at about half way through. The video ends with Sammy welcoming Leslie west from mountain to play Mississippi queen.

Janie Liszewski did the IMPOSSIBLE she helped Eddie Van Halen get better. Deal with it.

I have seen this before, but it's good to have things like this posted regularly on the links so someone who hasn't seen it before gets a chance.

That being said, I feel like this is a perfect example of why Eddie can't play other styles. I love Eddie, but that solo is shoe-horned into a song that doesn't need it and doesn't fit it.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Sounds like Eds out of tune.

I believe this was the incident Sammy mentions in his book.

Well...this is from memory so it might not be 100% accurate, but first off Eddie was on something...cocaine maybe. Paul came to Eddie and asked him if he would like to join him for this song. I believe Paul tried to teach him the song (Ed being unfamiliar with it) and Ed was having a tough time with it. Eventually Paul just said forget it...but Eddie was no I'm going to do this. And he went out there was a mess.

I'd have to go read that section again to confirm but this is roughly what happened.

This reminds me of Louis Armstrong's biography. He was a great player, but he couldn't read music. He was fine at solos and leads, but not back-up(according to the book). He tried to fit in, but he couldn't follow someone else.

Ed, to his credit, probably listened to it once nad gave a clinic on playing by ear. However, EVH style + Paul didn't equal a perfect performance.

Not Ed's finest moment, but not too bad either. His solo had a certain off-key bluesy sound to it. He was low in the mix and while the song doesn't need a solo it fit pretty well. I had not seen this clip before and half expected him to blast off with some wild lead tone, but it was very respectful to the song. Nonetheless, let's be thankful that Ed wrote his own music where his playing style can really shine. ha
