Default New Sammy Hagar song: "Fallen From Grace"

From www.melodicrock.com, new song written in the 80s for Heart, called "Fallen From Grace:"

    http://www.melodicrock.com/cd/MRCD9-MP3Samples/FFG.mp3

It's actually quite good! It really pushes Sam's vocal abilities to their limits!

I know this song well, and have always wondered what it would've sounded like had Sammy sung it himself. It's not bad, but Annie Wilson still owns this fuckin tune.

So the question is when was this recorded...?

A bit off-topic, but anyone else think that "Stand Up" from the movie Rock Star is severely underrated?

The song credits are listed as Sammy, Jesse Harms and Denny Carmassi, which makes it anyones guess as to when exactly it was written as the three of them crossed paths back and forth from early in the 70's. Listening to it I was thinking the sound was either Standing Hampton or VOA, but a second listen I'm definately thinking around the time of Standing Hampton - it just has that same feel as much of that album.

I've got a demo of sammy singing it, full band behind him, it actually sounds like a finished track but it's not the highest quality, I found it on napster waaaay back in the day. Sammy is at the top of his range for most of it, sounds like something he did in the late 80's' or early 90's cause he's singing so high.

I'll be interested to hear this to see if it's the same thing.

Agreed! The sisters did a great job with this one.

When Brigade came out and I saw the liner notes, i thought what a cool song and understood that Sam could not bring this into the VH camp.

Jesse Harms was a great songwriting partner with Sam, back in the day. I wish he was still with the Wabo's. Good writer. His backing vocals and keys are missed from Wabo shows the last few years.

He was really pissed when Sam went back to VH in '04 and quit.

Dear God, the 80's production on both of those.

I still believe the best sounding recordings came out of the 70's. Man do I sound like an old fart.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I do too but I think the 80's complaint was more about the production.

Sam has never been a hit maker but with the right motivation, the guy can craft a decent pop tune from time to time.

That sounds like a bad ballad from a movie about teenage competitive dancers or something.

I can picture it in my head, "Jimmy" has raw talent, but the coaches are riding him because he can't hit that pirouette correctly.

He goes home to his single parent home (mom passed away last year), and Dad starts giving him the business about his grades.

They aruge, his Dad tells him to give up dancing, and Jimmy runs out of the house. He hops on his motorcycle and goes to the abandoned warehouse of his mining town, pops this cassette in the boom box and remembers why he loves dancing in the first place.

I love ya Sammy, but put this one back in the vault.

I heard his new album was all retreads of old songs and he didn't know how to write music anymore.
