Wolfgang on cover of September bassplayer magazine

Looks like Wolfie is starting to get some much deserved recognition in the bass playing world. Nice interview with just Wolfie. Cover reads "Wolfgang Van Halen...Calling the shots in Rock's Royal Family"

I hope not. From reading the Guitar World interview with Ed it appears there is a lot to thank Wolfgang for so far as having new music from VH. The upside with Wolf replacing Mike to me is we get incredible music from two great bands and Mike is playing his ass off way more than he ever did with VH (yeah, because he is allowed to.) He also looks really happy. I honestly think and hope that Ed, Al and Dave WILL acknowledge Mike, they have to at some point and it would be real nice if Wolfgang did the same in the upcoming interview. If the magazine and journo is being told not to broach certain subjects then that is not good PR. Even Metallica now at least admit they treated Jason Newstead like shit. Sorry, nothing I have said that has not been said here a million times before.

oh I completely agree. I'm just saying it's going to descend into the usual drama. It's as guaranteed as your kid sprinting down the sidewalk tripping and doing a faceplant. You know what's coming . .. he stands up, turns to you and it's the deep quiet breath before the inevitable tears and wailing. All you can do is watch.

I agree with you completely, Plexi.

On a side note, good for Wolf. It's nice to see him getting his own cover after such a solid year of work.

I think only an anti-fan with a massive grudge - or an ignorant "Joe Public" asshat (you know who they are - just check out Youtube comment sections) would begrudge Wolfgang now. IMO it's hard to cut it any other way - this guy is the real deal. Solid bass player, great vocalist, a keen ear for (Van Halen's) music and (apparently) an all round great guy.

I look forward to hearing what he has to say.

Cool. Looking forward to hearing what he has to say since he hasn't been featured (and rightly so - those guys were talking about stuff from way before he was born) in any promo stuff the guys have done other than the CNN interview.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

You gotta love Wolfie. Some of us have been saying all along that he didn't deserve the shit being thrown his way so to see him having this success is fucking awesome. A big old "fuck you" to the haters the past several years with their stupid fat jokes and other bullshit.

He had the balls at 16 to be thrown into the fire and I think he held up as well as you could ask. Now he's clearly taken over Van Halen and is by far the biggest reason for their rebirth. I have so much respect for this kid it's not even funny.

VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

Wolfgang had an impossibly steep hill to climb when he joined this band. Everyone here hated that he was in the band in place of Mike. None of us gave him any credit and we were all ready to rip him to shreds--we were just waiting for the first video/audio to come before we would really have our ammunition...or so we thought. The only thing that made many of us hold back from complete nuclear meltdown was that he was only 16 and we figured Ed (and maybe Al) put him up to it.

After all that, us die-hards have come to accept him as part of the band, and an important one at that. I know I would have given up a long time ago if I read the vitriol that was spewed on this site and others like it. I'm glad we've all moved on from that, but I'm even more glad that it wasn't something we had to force ourselves to do. It came naturally when we found out this guy can really play and sing his ass off. The fact he gave Eddie motivation to save his own life and to create music can't be understated. Even if you hate the new music, if this is what it took for Ed to get out of his death spiral, then it was all worth it.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.
