Default Van Halen Montreal 2012 Full Show

If this is the wrong place I apologize. This is something I've wanted to see for a while and finally found it on youtube, the entire Montreal show from March 15th in one clip. If this should be in the tour section feel free to move it there but I thought it was pretty cool for everyone to see. It was an amazing show.

I listened to about 5 of the songs from this show.

The sound is allright. There isn't an overmodulated Bass in it, and that's good.

    The video quality is Good.

The concert is filmed actually showing the members of the band, and not the members of the band on the video screen -- you hardly see the video screen in this concert video. The videographer is elevated, so you're not getting the back of 40-50 year old heads in the frame.

What I don't like about the way this concert was filmed, is that the video is way too much Roth-centric. Many times, when Ed is doing some nice things, the camera is instead framed on Roth, doing his one-man-show. Also, the videographer is obsessed with getting close-ups of the faces, not just here and there, but all the way through. Gee, I know what their faces look like, instead, I would have prefered to have seen a band member's entire frame, head-to-toe, if you will, as the default view, with the facial close-ups only occasionaly.

As for the show, Eddie, Alex and Wolfie all do a great job. But Roth, he ends up "speaking" about half of his lines. Sometimes, I wonder why Roth doesn't take an acoustic guitar, and just go on the road solo, and just sing and talk his way through the VH catalog. He doesn't really seem to need the others, as he thinks he's got to be full on, in the center of the action, reacting to everything, every second, all the way through the show. (I find that annoying) The music is just a "prop" for him. He could just play a tape of the others, and then the audience could focus on nothing but his reaction to every second of the music.

I loved the deer in the headlights look when Dave was a bit early with "One Break Coming Up"... oops!

DLR was pretty good that night, much stronger than on the last few shows I saw clips of. But, to be fair, I was sitting front row center and I was NOT watching Dave. I paid that money to see Ed play (and Al to a lesser extent, hidden behind those drums).

I'd seen Van Halen play before, but never this close. I have said it before, that it was on my bucket list to be front row at a Van Halen concert. The last one I'd seen was the Sammy reunion tour at the A.C.C. in Toronto, which wasn't bad (Some of Ed's better playing on that tour it seems, from the clips I've seen.), but I was in the upper bowl first row on Mike's side. And it was clear that Ed was having problems even though he played pretty damn well that night.

Now, this... this was something completely different. There were songs played here I had never heard live before, Ed was playing at "Live Without A Net" level skill, Al was hammering away, and though I miss Mike, Wolfgang played well (I honestly didn't even glance at him once during the show.). I was front row center and just staring at Ed and his hands the entire night. Outta Love, Romeo Delight, Hear About It Later... I had NEVER heard those tunes before and it blew my mind (And my voice, I couldn't speak for two days afterward.).

This was the first thing I've ever done where I could scratch something off my bucket list, something I really wanted to do/see before I died, so this night is very special to me, made even better by the fact that the band was playing at a career high. Even though Dave had a few weak moments, he was TRYING to sing the songs to the best of his ability, which is all I ever asked.

I will relive this moment for the rest of my life thanks to these clips and always smile. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it too.

It was a pretty good show and I agree Dave was pretty good vocally here.
Don't know why he was singing higher than on the recording on Dance the night away.
He finally stopped doing that near the end.
But at this point in the tour his vocals were holding up.

I'm glad I saw them when I did. It seemed the perfect time: Dave had ditched the headset and was back to using a mic stand. His voice was doing all right, and of course the rest of the band was just on fucking FIRE! All the kinks from previous shows had been worked out.

If I was going to release a DVD of the tour, it'd either be MSG or The Bell Centre.

Jesus, whoever shot that opening shot of the drums before the concert started was practically standing in my shoes!

Just had to edit this. That's NOT the Montreal show lol. I was, like, "Who the fuck recorded this? They're standing where I was almost directly!"
