Default The GREAT Concerts of 2012: A Different Kind of Truth Tour, N. America

Unfortunately, Van Halen's "A Different Kind of Truth Tour" of North America ended last night in New Orleans.

I loved this tour -- and I'm hoping that others want to bask in its glow for awhile!! The song switch-ups, the way the show continually evolved... My question to everyone who saw the ADKOT tour and/or the bootlegs is: which shows do you think were the greatest on this tour?

For me, it's a tough list to narrow down, but IMO, these are the GREATEST SHOWS of the 2012 Tour of N. America (in chronological order):

    * The first three shows, i.e. the Cafe Wha?, Henson Studios, and the Forum were special... That said, there were some truly epic gigs on this tour afterward.

    * New York City, Madison Square Garden; 2nd Night -- The band's first masterpiece on this tour! This was the first of 5 scorchers in a row!

    * Manchester, New Hampshire -- I could just as easily pick Boston (crazier,) Connecticut (better sound,) or even Montreal -- along with MSG2, these were the 5 scorchers. That said, if you like David Lee Roth: this is the show you'll want to watch again and again.

    * Tulsa, Oklahoma -- VH had a spotty run through the south and Midwest, with some highlights (Nashville, Tulsa) and lowlights (Jacksonville, Denver.) Some people were kinda down on VH during this period, but this show (along with St. Paul) gave many of us good reason to believe that good things were coming..! (And they were!)

    * Tacoma, Washington -- For whatever reason, this cavernous building provided excellent sound for video cameras capturing the show... And a good show it was! Here the band is much looser than, for example, in NYC or Boston. Jams last longer; stories are funnier.

    * Dallas
    * San Antonio
    * Houston -- Kevin Dodds wrote excellent reviews of all three of the aforementioned shows!

Other top-shelf shows, IMO: Reading, PA (with "Jamie's Cryin'" & "Blood and Fire" Atlantic City, NJ; Anaheim, CA; Las Vegas, NV; Oakland, CA (even though San Jose got "Bottoms Up!")
Springfield, MASS. - Hartford, CONN. =VH= Fans UNITE!

Best VH shows? Everyone that I was in attendance. Opening night in Louisville was pretty great. Pittsburgh was special because I got to be front row, center to hear Blood & Fire - my favorite cut off of ADKOT.

We're still chillin in New Orleans. We were dead center to Wolf this time. I personally think the N.O. show was much better than Houston. I'll explain later when I get home.

MSG2. When they opened with Unchained the place went NUCLEAR!! Blew the top off of MSG. Truly one of the most memorable moments of any VH show I have ever been to.

While the Detroit area show was a little rusty since it was only the 2nd of the tour, to unexpectedly hear Al start "Girl Gone Bad" on the ride cymbal after "Women in Love..." gave me goosebumps as I was expecting "Outta Love Again."

I thought Pittsburgh was a very good show. The mix sounded very good to me. Hearing Blood and Fire live was cool too.

    Default Manch Vegas

    manchester nh was pretty awesome!
This is the show where Roth stopped the band in "Pretty Woman" due to a fight in the crowd.

I never expected the band to be THIS Good ever again.
    What a pleasant ( AWESOME ) surprise.
I finally saw VH again in fine form. Thank you lord : )

Default San Diego Viejas Arena Van Halen 2012

Put on a show weaker than their last.Seemed like they were going through the motions all except before Van Halen came on, KRAFT Food Services came on stage and started flippin'flapjacks and sung "Chewy Cookie!" and "Where the Black People at?" Dave had a slip and slide instead of flexibility, Wolfie was trying to show off his little man biceps (I know...he's holy) and Alex sweated a little less. Eddie did his Eddie show (we all know he rocks extereme) and nobody wanted a Tatoo.
Eddie is still a legend and it was great to see the boys back together again, but I'll go to a few Van Halen tribute bands evey year from now on instaed of Van Halen Light. I really hate to say this, but it's true.
My favorite band has Kool and the Flapjack Gang opening for them, and their new songs don't seem that great.
Don't worry though, I spent $300 on tickets, $100 on food and drinks and $100 on T-shirts for what I could have gotten for an $18 bottle of whiskey.

For me LA and LV where amazing, hope they tour more this year.
"I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone

"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and Ive got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth

WOLFGANG did the IMPOSSIBLE, he brought back VAN HALEN, DEAL WITH IT.

Great call!! I can't believe I forgot Pittsburgh!! Aside from Manchester & NYC Part 2, Pittsburgh is the gig I've watched the most on boot. I love "Blood and Fire" in Pittsburgh. (Great city too!)

I NEVER expected to hear VH to play "Girl Gone Bad" live again -- and felt astonished when I read about the Detroit area show.

That was an incredible moment -- and also in retrospect, foreshadowed the numerous surprises on this tour.

Connecticut's the first time I saw VH in '12, and it's the best I've heard them sound (maybe b/c of where I was in the arena). Connecticut, Boston, and Manchester were all A/A+.

Las Vegas..! The band looks so loose, like it's having so much fun. Great vibe.

I'm wondering, do you feel like one LA show was better than the other..?

Of the two I went to this time, Pittsburgh rocked. Good seats, band was feeling it, and hearing Ripley (sorry, i meant BAF) live was classic!

    Peace!
