    Default Guitarist poll

I always get a kick out of these polls radio stations do. Its cool we can vote for EVH, but how can they leave out players like Jeff, Beck, Randy R, etc? Who decides who makes the cut???

Yeah......leaving out the names you mentioned and having Townsend up there is pretty weird. Nothing against Pete but I've never considered him among that company of guitarists.

Good to see Gilmour getting props. List is still missing Knopfler and Trevor Rabin. The entire top row is a no-brainer.

What funny is Duane Allman is leading the pole, he's been dead for like 40 years and he's not a game changer like Hendrick's, Clapton, Page, Vaughn or Van Halen.

Hendrix and Vaughan are both deceased as well, and Duane Allman was an incredible guitar player while he was alive. He wasn't a game changer but he was terribly underrated.

I agree he was underrated, I like the Allman's. Guitar polls are stupid anyway, I just thought it was funny he was leading the poll.

In these polls it's always the usual suspects like clapton Hendrix page but really the only the reason these guitarists always win is because the media such as rolling stone and old music fans in the media are always saying they are the best but really i think Eddie could outplay any of those guys now in the past a
Janie Liszewski did the IMPOSSIBLE she helped Eddie Van Halen get better. Deal with it.

Townshend's riffing and rhythm playing is what puts him there, I'd say.

I'm a huge Who fan, and it has taken me years to really appreciate Pete's playing. He has evolved into a really cool lead player, but much of his early (and I mean, pre-'96 or so, LOL) lead playing was hit or miss. For rhythm, though, he was always very cool.

Same ol' stuff on that poll, as usual (EVH aside, of course)

Nobody ever acknowledges these guys, and they are all criminally underrated.

I love Pete's playing. Such a solid rythm player and a great songwriter (kind of explains my screen name a little!).
I hate these lists because it's always the same players on there. Personally I'd dump Keith Richards, Slash and Clapton () and replace them with Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher and Leslie West

I've never understood why Clapton got all the glory, while Gallagher could play circles round him, even Hendrix was quoted as saying Rory was the best player ever born.

+1 on Warren DeMartini an especially George Lynch... NOBODY makes his guitar scream in agony like George Lynch. Maybe the most underrated guitarist of the eighties and nineties.

Damn right he is. And like other greats, taken from the earth way too soon. 24 years old I believe he was....One thing most people aren't aware of is that Duane was a very successful session player before he formed the Allman Brothers band. He played on some pretty successful records and with big name artists before the Allman Brothers ever existed. So in a sense he was not necessarily underrated by his peers in the music business. He played on some Aretha Franklin tunes as well as Otis Redding and others when he was just a wee lad.
