Just got home from the show......

tired and deaf but semi coherent.

They brought it home tonight on all cylinders. The only glitch was eddies mic stand. seemed to be loose on a few songs and needed stage hand help a few times. Opened with unchained and did the usual set. deep cuts were Women in Love and HAIL... Was hoping for DDLs and Full Bug but the show was top notch.

Dave sung well...he didnt try to over sing or sing up over the normal register which was nice. Eds solo was superb. As was Alex's. Wolf was solid and the crowd was into it. id say it was 98 % full.

New songs seemed to lack a little live. Tattoo was good but China town was meh...Dave just doesnt seem to be able to carry that one so good live. The crowd was the same as I have heard before on the new cuts...bathroom breaks or sitting.

Over all I would give the show a solid A-......

We had a blast...Kool and the gang was funky as hell and got the crowd ready for VH...

300 well spent on very good seats mid level on Eds side... Sound was clear and just loud enough....
If cleanliness were next to Godliness, then that would make you the devil...(CLUTCH)...

    More in the morning...

The show was beyond off the hook. EWS went on for TEN minutes...for starters.

It was AWESOME. Dave was a lot better than expected from all I've heard and seen (Youtube) of the tour so far. He wasn't off key, did a lot of screams and high kicks, and actually seemed to get better as the show went on. By the end it wasn't Goofy Dave; it was Swagger Dave. After Jump, he literally looked like he wanted to do more. At the end he proclaimed it one of the better shows of the tour.

Ed, Al, and Wolf are just unbelievable. The playing is super-human, of course, but the vocals between Ed and Wolf were another surprise. I honestly think they could carry a whole show if Dave didn't bother to sing. Ed's solo was mind blowing (they are doing great stuff with the video screen, btw). Highlights for me were Everybody Wants Some, Hot for teacher, and the guitar solo.

Kool and the Gang were great. They reminded everyone of how many hits they had and, as has been said for many other shows, had EVERYBODY out of their seats by the end of the set.

Interesting. There seems to be an inordinate amount of women born in 1982 that are getting front row seats for these shows. It would seem that, according to Roth's nightly ramblings, there is one at every show! What are the odds?

This is the sad state of "casual fans". Most have not heard ADKOT or are even aware that VH has a new cd out there. Probably why they only play 4 songs from it. I wish VH would consider playing Chinatown and As Is as instrumentals. Glad you had a good time!

Wow Diamond Dave hitting those old style notes yet again on Ain't Talkin' Bout Love.Alright!
I hope this shuts up some people who keep saying he can't sing because he's done a great job on this song two shows in a row here.
So the song follows the big Ed solo which gives Dave some rest.

So the only issue I can see over the course of the tour, say about 3/4 of the way, is some obvious vocal fatigue on some songs usually in the first half of the concert,
or maybe drying out of his throat.
Maybe the way he's warming up before the show doesn't have him warmed up enough,or just a case of one show too many, or he's got to learn what works for him to keep the vocal cords from drying out.Or schedule more breaks into the tour 3 weeks shows, 10 days off, back to 3 weeks shows.

He's shown that he still has most of his range and power,so a little going back to school with a respected Vocal trainer on warm up exercises and lubrication might be a good thing.Of course the first rule is not to talk too much.Good luck with that.

When he sings like on Ain't Talkin' bout love it really is something.

I had the time of my life at last night's Van Halen concert in San Antonio! Even the drunken yahoos in my area couldn't bring me down! I am really looking forward to the Van Halen concert at the Frank Erwin Center which should occur sometime this winter! I'll post a review later, and hope to share some of the many professional quality photos that my buddy Brian shot!

Yes, I'm sure the performances are still unbelievable and the show is high energy. And I'm sure everyone seeing these last shows are having their minds blown as well as having a great time.

However, they seem to be on cruise control with the setlist down the stretch here. "The Full Bug" has disappeared the last couple of weeks and "Outta Love Again" and "Girl Gone Bad" are completely gone the last month. The mixing up of the setlist they did the whole tour has vanished for a fixed set like the 2007-2008 tour. As said above, it's not a complaint because I'm sure the shows are still great. It's just a head scratcher as to what has made them ditch the dynamic setlist for a static one.
