Default Black Keys drummer: "Much of Van Halen's work is exceptionally awful" and blasts VH

    http://ultimateclassicrock.com/black...sts-van-halen/

Looks like not everybody had as much fun attending Van Halen‘s current tour as we did. Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney said he didn’t enjoy himself “at all” when he attended one of the legendary group’s shows, and went on to question why Van Halen were performing without their original bassist.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the alt-rock star explained, “I just saw Van Halen without Michael Anthony. I’m not a very big Van Halen fan but it was such a f—ing bummer. Like what the f— is the point? I mean, sure, Eddie Van Halen’s son (Wolfgang) is a pretty good bass player and he’s a 20-year-old kid and that’s cool, but like, what the f— is that? That’s f—ing retarded. If someone is able to be in a band for 30 years and then people are okay with replacing him with a 17-year-old, they’re obviously motherf—— a–holes, right?”

In his defense, Eddie Van Halen has said publicly in recent interviews that without his son’s energy and organization, there would be no version of Van Halen at all right now. The band re-emerged from a nearly-decade long absence with Wolfgang taking Anthony’s place about five years ago, and has gone on to deliver two well-received tours and a critically acclaimed new studio album, ‘A Different Kind of Truth.’ Anthony is currently a member of hard rock supergroup Chickenfoot.

Carney went on to say that while he likes some of Van Halen’s older music, he finds much of their work to be “exceptionally awful.” It’s not the first time in recent months the Black Keys have taken public shots at one of their older peers, with guitarist / singer Dan Auerbach quoted in another Rolling Stone story mocking Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro: ‘You’re doing it wrong!”
Also blasts the band for replacing Mike.

I liked a couple of their songs a few years ago... Strangely, I can't even remember the name of them now.

Seriously, it looks like they're one of these hipster Indie bands trying to boost their "Indie cred".

As if bands haven't been replacing original members for like... Ever.

Fuck him and the donkey he rode in on! To quote Al from a interview i heard around 1981, "if you like VH, great, welcome aboard. If you don't like VH, go fuck yourself!".

I still like the Black Keys but the drummer has tried to stir up shit before. I don't get his logic behind it.

An Indie band taking shots at a band like VH to look more credible in their genre isn't all that surprising. He sounds clueless though.

I like that he has a take, and doesn't even try to hold his opinion back on Mike. That kinda kicked a little ass.

Little Black Submarine is the best song out there now. Just a great fuckin' tune.

His opinion of current VH differs from mine.

    So what.

    Yup.

I love the Black Keys and I love Van Halen. It's just a shame Mr. Carney doesn't see what we all do, but him and Dan grew up listening to an entirely different kind of music. No big deal.

Cool. In twenty years I wonder if somebody from the new favorite Rolling Stone band will even be quoted over attending a Black Keys show.

    'Cause he's right.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

A band that is carrying the torch of blues-based rock 'n' roll for the next generation. Seriously, I was one of the older people at their show here back in March.

I don't like what Pat said, but I'll defend the Black Keys.
