    Default National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse

Fatherlessness is a growing crisis in America, one that undergirds many of the challenges that families are facing. When dads aren't around, young people are more likely to drop out of school, use drugs, be involved in the criminal justice system, and become young parents themselves.

President Obama grew up without his dad, and has said that being a father is the most important job he has. That's why the President is joining dads from across the nation in a fatherhood pledge – a pledge that we'll do everything we can to be there for our children and for young people whose fathers are not around. When you take the President's Fatherhood Pledge, you'll receive updates, tips and resources from fatherhood organizations, prominent dads and other supporters of responsible fatherhood around the nation.

    Fatherhood.gov is a site for:

•Dads looking for tips, hints and even deals for dads and kids – find them on the DadTalk Blog and in the "For Dads" corner
•Fatherhood programs looking to get started or expand – check out the "For Programs" section
•Researchers and policy makers looking for the latest on responsible fatherhood – check out our Library

This will make me sound like a very old man, but if you aren't willing to take responsibility for the potential little kid coming from it, keep your fucking dick in your pants.

    It's that damn simple.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

I'll see you one old man comment and raise you one,

If you don't think the baby daddy is responsible enough to stick around and help raise the child than keep your legs closed and stick to oral.

Its a pretty sad state of affairs that we have to have groups formed on stuff like this, and I concur with the "old man" statements above, but the bigger concern IMO seems to be with this generations unwillingness to recognize that their parents will not always be able to bail them out of situations as they get older

    Action, reaction, etc

The shit is not a video game that can be restarted
    It is what it is

I won't insult your intelligence by suggesting that you really believe what you just said

I could tell that my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio.

This is so very true, yet in our PC culture, people are publicly derided for making comments like this.

Remember the birth control for Catholic insurance groups, and the guy that said: "back in my day, birth control consisted of putting a nickel between your knees (or something to that affect)"?

He was lambasted for being insensitive and a puritan (although, notably, no one really challenged him on the logic of it).

It's a cultural thing. Everyone wants the fun without the responsibility--and fully expects someone else to support them if they fuck up in the process, whether it's their parents, church, or government.

Kudos to the parents out there that put in the work in an unrewarding, yet completely important, job. For the guys out there that have 4 kids with 3 women and are always behind in child support payments, do us a favor and take a sledgehammer to your berries.

There's other factors, or the Black illegitimacy rate wouldn't be 72%.

I think it's just reflective of the environment they grow up in, where responsibility is not enforced and taking the easy way out is the option taken. I don't care how undereducated someone is or how deep in poverty they are, even a 5th grader (especially one who watches MTV, BET, or daytime television) knows that dick + vagina (can) = baby.

Maury Povich does daily lessons on this phenomena.

It's actually much more sinister. The entire race was enslaved for generations and didn't achieve equal status until 1964, less than 50 years ago. Before this, in 1940, the Black poverty rate was 87%. By 1960, it was 47%, and it is now 36%, but the highest of any race in the US (Whites have a 14% poverty rate).

Also, in 1940, the Black illegitimacy rate was 15%. In 1960, it was 23%. In 1970, it was 38%. In 1980 it was 55%. In 1990, it was 65%. Today, it's 72%.

Blacks have been and continue to be much more likely to be poor. When you're poor, you attend the worst schools and live in the areas with the most crime. When you're poor and attend the worst schools, you're much more likely to drop out and have poor skills for the workforce. Even if you graduate, you tend to have poor skills for the workforce.

If you're low-skilled and poor, the job opportunities are slim, and if employers don't believe your skill level is worth what they're forced to pay you, the job goes to someone else or no one is hired. If no one will hire you, you're priced out of starting your own business because of excessive red tape, costs and licensing.

By 1970, AFDC benefits amounted to more than what you would get with a full-time, minimum-wage job. In other words, it made more sense not to work if you had difficulty finding work, starting a business, or weren't skilled enough for a higher-paying job. As a source of income, fathers became less important. As they became less important, more and more girls were growing up either without a father or with a dead-beat father, and with benefits fathers became less and less important. This, of course, grew exponentially.

As young girls became more and more disenfranchised with their situation--single mother, dead-beat or no father, terrible schools, high crime, gang problems--the government offered a solution: free food, free medical care, free legal, an apartment of one's own, and several hundred dollars a month--if you have an illegitimate child.

You have a race that was enslaved, denied civil rights, disproportionally poor, subject to the highest crime, the worst schools, and then the government offered benefits that encouraged illegitimacy. Keeping one's dick in his pants is only part of the problem.
