Anybody want to speculate as to the setlist if this actually happened?

To me, this one seems like a layup...

Meh. The prospect of VH playing at the Super Bowl isn't very exciting to me. A quick montage of abbreviated radio hits?... *shrug*

    That seems logical.

But if they could do it with Mike and Sam too I'd do this.

    YRGM or ATBL (current lineup)
    Panama (Wolf introduces Mike)
    Dreams (Ed introduces Sam)
    and Everyone for Jump

The good news is that the hiring of Van Halen’s 21-year-old son, Wolfgang, as the bass player drives the average age of the band down, a bit. The bad news is that David Lee Roth is still the lead singer.

    Love it.

Seriously, why does everyone get their nuts in a twist for VH to play this event? Why would you want your favorite band to play a mediocre set to a glazed eyed, worldwide crowd and then hear nothing the next day except for how old they looked and how bad they sucked?

I think it has to do with being on the biggest stage there is on what many think should be an American holiday. Seeing our fave band live a HD TV with surround in front of our naked steaming eyes. As cheesy as it can be sometimes, it can also be quite good.

    agree.
i think Dave might sound like shit and be exposed in that kinda performance....

but, as weak as The Who were, plenty of older rockers have been GREAT:

Bruce and Petty and McCartney (and Prince and U2 aren't as old as VH, but not that young either).

sure, it's a cheezy hit medley, but still it's your guy/band playing for the whole world. it would be great. better than Madonna/Gaga/pop shit.

Prince rocked the place the year he did it, I see no reason why VH couldn't pull it off. It could also go the complete opposite direction and suck balls, but it's worth a shot. my only real apprehension is that the sound usually really sucks bad.

Football is all about testoserone, VH is a testoserone band.

    Not some pop sounding chicks.

Yeah, was thinking about the setlist too...obviously this isnt set in stone, hell he could be coming out with a new line of guitar or shoes next year.
I dont get the debbie downers, i think it'd be awesome. As long as its just them, and not Rihanna or Lady Gaga or some other atrocity up there too.

Panama, Jump, YRGM are pretty obvious, ATBL probably. Is the performance part what 10-12 minutes? So yeah, the ole partial songs deal, but bet they'd play all of Jump.
    Dealing with it.

If they let Dave be the showman he is rather than try to be as perfect of a singer he sometimes tries to be they would be alright. I think the vocal problems arise when Dave tries too damn hard. He just needs to go with it, be a more bluesy Dave than late 70's/early 80's Dave.
Musically they will be great, so in that case they have The Who beat already.

I love Van Halen with Roth. I've waited 28 years to see them live and it finally happened last month in Winnipeg. But the arena was filled with fans who are generally forgiving of Roth's vocals and new dancing style. Having said that, I don't want to see VH at the Superbowl. I don't want to put up with all of the whining from non-fans. If Roth buckled down with a coach and actually spent time on the actual melodies then I'd be all for it.
