    Default Eddie's tone on ADKOT

sorry for starting a couple of threads lately but this thing is really on my mind. Does anyone know the exact signal chain for Eddie's tone on this record? I have seen his pedal board, so it's fair to assume what effects he uses. But how about the exact settings for his amp etc. Hope anyone's got some info on this.

    thanks

not sure but the next Guitar World is supposed to have a section on Ed's current setup and rig.

    We'll see what it says,

Yeah on the recording. As I said we pretty much know what he uses live. Was there an engineer involved during the recoridng? Or did Eddie record it all by himself, which I doubt. Maybe someone else who was involved could give some answers

    Info straight from Ross Hogarth:

2 5150 III heads and cabs, each mic'd with an SM57 and a Royer 122V on the 2 best sounding speakers on each cab. Each amp/mic set up was panned hard left/right and the mics were blended together to taste.

Some overdubs added a third amp/cab to the mix, being the 50w head + 2x12 cab.

Here's a pic John Shanks tweeted around the beginning of the album recording: http://yfrog.com/z/hsjrpzj

But I'm sure Ed used a ton of different settings throughout the album.

    Cool pic indeed!

I love the tone he goes for on most of the tunes on ADKOT, but the one I don't like is the amount of wah on TTWN.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    EVH 5150iii Channel 2:

    Gain: 10 ?
    Low: 4
    Mid: 4
    Treble: 7
    Volume: 5

The guys over at ToneMerchants (who build Eddie's rigs) were saying the other day that with the EVH heads, they mixed in Eddie's classic marshall and also on Peavey 5150ii as well. I think they were all blasting through the EVH cabs, but it seems there was a variety of heads on the album.

I still miss his bradshaw rig - he sounded monstrous through it...

I wouldn't be surprised... there were a few songs on the new album that definitely sounded a lot like his VHIII / 2004 live tour tone.

And +1000000 about the Bradshaw rig....

I think in general his tone on this record sound very "gainy". At least more gain as on any previous Van Halen record. I thought that would come with the EVH 5150III.
