    Default D Day-The 6th of June

68 years ago this morning. Darn few of those vets left. I think i'll have a toast for them today, keep them and their sacrifices in your thoughts.

My great uncle was part of the D-Day invasion as a Seabee in the Navy. He actually has done some interviews recently with the History channel and was also on that Ollie North show on Fox about war stories.

His stories range from wonderous--seeing ships as far as the eye could see, lighting up the sky with gun fire--to the tragic--seeing the water turn dark red, bodies and body parts floating everywhere in the surf. 68 years later and he still gets choked up and says a prayer for them when he tells the story. My great uncle is always a happy-go-lucky guy, but you can see his mood change immediately when he starts thinking about D-Day.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

God bless your uncle and every other member of the greatest generation. Thank you all for your love of country, a lesson that needs to be remembered and repeated.

    RIP.

Also, a few days ago in 1942 was the Battle of Midway, which resulted in the US sinking 4 Japanese aircraft carriers, and turning the tide of the war in the Pacific.

    God bless all who serve.

RIP for all who served. My Dad was on a destroyer on DDay 20 miles off shore on submarine patrol.

My grandfather was a captain of a troop carrier on the Normandy beach invasion. He used to tell me stories before he died about that day. Told me most of the troops died on his boat because they jumped over the edge of the boat before the rear gate went down and a lot of men drowned as it crushed them. He used to tear up as he said it. War is hell. Thanks to all the men who gave up everything for us.
